"No, no, NO!" he yelled, banging his fist against the desk. He was feeling agitated. The formula would not work. Why?!
"Father? Someone is here to see you," his daughter told him sweetly. He smiled at her and hugged her. 'Wait, a visitor? It's much to early! They shouldn't be here!' he thought. The door creaked as he opened it a crack. "Your package, sir." UPS man. The man sighed and took the package. "Thank you." He looked inside and saw his mice that he needed.
A few hours later, his daughter came back. "A lady is here, father!" she smiled.
'Oh dear...' He opened the door and she came inside. "Hello, Dr! How's it going?" she said with pretend friendliness.
"Why are you here, Delphine?" he was feeling threatened.
"Curtis Connors. Excuse me, Dr. Curtis Connors. I've heard about your daughter...healthy?"
"She is very healthy! Why are you here?" His skin was growing scalier.
"No need to feel threatened, Curtis! Maybe I'm just here to see you...and your daughter."
He narrowed his eyes and spoke carefully. "Keep away from my daughter. Leave her alone."
She looked into his eyes. "I wouldn't dare...Lizard." The skin rapidly turned greener.
"Are you okay?" Connors daughter was the only thing he loved now. It almost made Delphine feel bad about what she was about to do. Almost.
"Curtis, your daughter is adorable. I'm sorry."
"What?!"
"She is coming with me. You'll have her back! It's just for awhile!" Delphine stared at him. "It's for the best. We both know she has a little from Daddy's side. It's either that or you're a mouse hoarder." She smiled at her joke. "It will be okay. I promise."
"NO! I need her. She is legally my daughter. You can't give her to that monster-"
"Says the man-lizard! Calm down! It won't be long before I see you again. And maybe it will go better, for your sake."
Delphine smiled at Connors. He was rapidly turning into the Lizard. The daughter looked at her changing father, not in the least bit scared. "Daddy, I don't want to leave. I want to be with you," she said softly.
His skin turned regular and bent down to hug her. Delphine stopped him. "Daddy is saying goodbye and then we must go," she told the daughter softly. Delphine looked up for his approval. Feeling defeated, he nodded. "Be a good girl and I'll see you soon. Promise?"
"I promise. Love you!" she called.
As Delphine and the little girl walked out he felt alone. Delphine asked one last thing before they left. "What is her name?"
Curt looked grim.
