"You're not really here." She whispered, shaking her head in emphasis as she clutched her knees tightly to her chest.

"Stella…" She seemed to feel, more than hear, the soft tenor of her name and as much as she wanted to believe that he would be standing there when she raised her head she knew that it was an impossibility.

"You've left me here all by myself Mac. You've gone." She paused and drew in a shaking breath, her shoulders dropping further, her back hunching over just that bit more allowing her to truly sink into herself.

"I don't know what I'm supposed to do anymore. You promised me you wouldn't leave me; you promised that I'd never be alone." Salted tears made their way down her cheeks, not for the first time that day, running towards the tip of her nose and finally to her dry lips.

Licking her lips she let a bitter smile fall over them, it was the ultimate cruelty; tasting her weakness.

Lifting her head off of her knees she kept her hands over her eyes, their heels pressing in firmly. She didn't want to see anything. She didn't think that she could handle the emptiness her eyes would surely find.

"You told me you'd always be with me." She continued, her voice rising slightly as her distress mounted and the tears began to come harder. "Why did you lie to me Mac? I don't want to be alone!"

A sob tore at her throat and she found herself suddenly on her feet, eyes wide open to the fact that there was nothing but darkness surrounding her. Anger pulsed through her veins as the tears continued falling and she reached around, fingers clasping onto the nearest thing before slamming it into the opposite wall.

"I don't see you Mac! You're not here!" She screamed as the telephone broke against the opposing wall.

Picking up another object she spun around and flung it against the bathroom door, "Why aren't you here! You promised me! I need you!"

With one final cry Stella's energy seemed to dissipate, along with her anger, and she sunk to the floor once again.

"I can't see you." She murmured.

And she swore she heard him say, "No, but I can see you."

End.
