Chapter 1
Coldness
Her parents had died; her sister had been ignoring her for the past ten years; and now Anna was completely and utterly alone.
The sixteen-year-old girl took a seat in front of her sister's room, her fingers brushing longingly against the door before returning to her lap. "Elsa?" She said quietly.
There was no response. Of course. There was never a response.
Elsa had never showed a single sign of being present in her room. No words, no knock. Nothing. Just a pained silence that hung over the air, accompanied by a strange coldness seemed to emanate from her room. She could have left years ago and Anna wouldn't even know it.
But Anna knew that she wasn't going to give up on her sister. Not yet. She still believed that Elsa was in there, even though every passing day made it seem more and more unlikely.
Letting her blue eyes fall shut, the younger girl began to sing quietly. "Please, I know you're in there..." She knew she sounded stupid, singing to herself. Like a little girl pursuing elusive dreams.
"People are asking where you've been."
Anna pulled her knees to her chest. Elsa had no idea what she had to go through, every single day. Elsa was never interrogated. Elsa was never questioned. Elsa never had to beg to see her sister; if she wanted to do that, all she had to do was open the door.
Things were harder on Anna. She'd get letters from the many citizens of Arendelle, all saying the exact same thing: "Where's Elsa?" "We want to see our queen." "Please come out, Elsa." And honestly, Anna was trying. She had been trying for ten years.
That didn't matter, though. It had never mattered...
Anna felt tears well up behind her closed eyelids, but she ignored them. "They say "have courage", and I'm trying to... I'm right out here for you." Her voice wavered slightly, close to breaking.
"Just let me in..."
The news of their parent's deaths had just arrived a few days ago. And now, Anna needed her sister's company more than ever.
"We only have each other. It's just you and me... what are we gonna do?
She opened her eyes, her gaze shifting to a nearby window. It was starting to snow outside; this was the first snow this year.
Biting her lip a bit too hard, Anna asked the same question she'd been asking over and over again, every single day of her life:
"Do you wanna build a snowman?"
Her voice was barely a whisper, and she didn't think that Elsa would be able to hear her. Even if she could, she probably didn't care. After all, how could you care about your sister if you had spent the past ten years avoiding her?
Anna took a shuddering breath, feeling drops of water spill from her eyes and roll down her cheeks. She chose not to acknowledge that she was crying. She'd already promised herself that she wouldn't cry.
Elsa was never coming out again. That was final.
She stood up, preparing to leave. Her footsteps felt unusually heavy against the wooden floorboards.
And then... and then the door swung open.
I'll continue this if people seem to like it... otherwise, I'll just leave it as a oneshot. ^^
This is not a songfic, by the way. The song lyrics should be treated as regular dialogue.
Feedback (good and bad) is greatly appreciated!
