Speech.
She had come to learn that speech was the most powerful form of communication.
You could send an army to battle with a single word
A single sentence could sum up an entire book if you knew what words to use
When they first met, she was frustrated with his lack of speech. She would pester him all day, but not get a single syllable out of him.
It infuriated her
She soon learnt that sometimes, few words were as powerful as a long speech
Sometimes, it was the absence of speech that conveyed a message
The absence of speech conveyed his message
She became intrigued
She stopped pestering him about speaking, but simply listened to the silence
He taught her so much without making a sound
She learnt the secrets the Earth held, she appreciated the sound of an arrow whistling through the air, she could almost sense those who tried to approach her.
As her mouth closed her ears opened and so did her mind to a world of possibilities
He taught her to think about the words she said, to value her speech and not waste it on anyone who didn't deserve it. She became more thoughtful as she became choosier, she became wiser as she selected her words.
His first words to her were spoken under a full moon, she never thought she would forget the sound of his voice for as long as she lived- even if she never heard it again.
He only spoke to her when they were alone. She didn't mind this, in fact, it made her feel special. It made her feel like she was worth him using his speech. He had a surprising way with words, conveying his message exactly as it was intended.
She remembered their first kiss. It was a few months after she had realised her feelings for him, and she began acting different around him. She didn't mean it, she just would ramble and stumble over her words, verbally tripping. He kissed her as she was fumbling over what to say.
Once more, the absence of speech was powerful as their lips touched under the silence of the trees.
Sometimes, however, to convey a message speech was needed. She remembered such a time, it would live in her heart forever.
Together, gathered with a few people he said "I do" and the power of words struck her again.
