Chapter One: Hello, Daddy

Sarah's POV

I left go of Mackenzie's hand to ring the doorbell. Our mom dropped us off here and told us she'd be back in a month. I pressed the small circle and it changed to the color orange. You could hear a faint DING-DONG! and click of the lock. The door opened. A tall man with shaggy brown hair stood in front of Mackenzie and I. Fabian Rutter.

"I'm sorry, but I don't want any cookies today, girls." He tried to close the door, but I slammed my hand on the door, causing it to stop.

"We're your daughters," I smiled. He looked at me with fear in his eyes. "Hello, daddy."

Fabian paced in front of Lily and I. "So, I'm a father?"

"Yeah, that's what "we're your daughters" means," I snapped. I already hate him. Mom said that he was sweet and smart in High School but sometimes didn't pull through. And he left mom. He didn't even know about me or Mackenzie 'till we showed up on his doorstep.

"This is crazy! I mean I'm happy I have kids! I'm happy that I have two daughters! But, when? How?"

"I don't think I should explain how in front of Mack," I smirked.

"Mack? Her name's Mack?" Fabian asked, bending down in front of Mackenzie.

"Yeah, so?" Mackenzie snapped. He looked surprised by her outburst. "And it's Mackenzie to you."

"Girls, I'm sorry. Nina, I mean you're mother and I have parted ways and-" Fabian started.

"Pardon me, but you've obviously mistaken me for someone who gives a damn," I spat. Fabian looked at me with a gleam in his eyes.

"Do you have an Aunt Patricia?" He asked. How the heck does he know that?

"Maybe," I said, "What does this have to do with anything?"

"Mackenzie, come here for a second please," Fabian said, running his hands through his hair. Mackenzie looked at me with fear in her eyes. Who could blame her? She's only ten. 'Go,' I mouthed, 'But don't tell him anything.' She nodded and stood up. She followed Fabian into the kitchen. Once I knew they couldn't see me, I pulled out a picture.

"Oh, mommy," I whispered to the picture, "Why did you make us go here?"
