Unexpected Love: Dena's Story
Journey blasted through the speakers of my headphones, connected to my walkman, and I fell back on my bed, spreading my arms and legs wide. I sang the lyrics out, grinning.
"Those crazy nights, I do remember in my youth
I do recall, those were the best times, most of all
In the heat with a blue jean girl
Burnin' love comes once in a lifetime
She found me singing by the rail road track
Took me home, we danced by moonlight"
"Seriously? How come you can memorize that, but I can't?"
I opened my eyes and grinned at my parabatti Olivia, the grin turning grin to a smirk. "I'm just that more awesome."
She rolled her dark hazel eyes, pushing up off of the doorjamb and walking over to me with the grace of an angel, all while looking like the devil. She was in gear, the tight black lace corset hugging her curved figure, the black leather-like pants sculpting around her legs and the boots adding at least 7-inches to her already tall height. Her blond hair hung in waves down to her shoulders, and it flew back behind her as she flopped down on the bed beside me. "Witty as always, I see. You're an interesting one, De De."
"Isn't that why you love me?"
"You know it."
My parabatti was many things. Secretive was not one of them. So I was pretty surprised when she bit her lip and looked away. "Uh-uh. No. No secrets. What's up, Liv?"
"Nothing…"
"I'm serious. Cut the crap."
"Okay. Fine. We're sneaking booze into the new years eve party tomorrow."
I sat up. "No shit?"
She nodded and sat up as well. "No shit."
"Awesome!"
"But first, we're going hunting tonight."
"Cool." I climbed over her and off the bed. "Just let me get changed."
"'Kay." She bounced out the door, shutting it behind her. Man, she was peppy.
Decked out in gear, I slid my seraph blade into my belt, and made for the door. Arms encircled me from behind, and a smile broke out on my lips. "Dude!" My boyfriend grinned at me, amusement sparking his silver Apollyon eyes. Dork. He smirked, and put me down. "Chick."
"Yes, I am a chick, thanks for noticing."
Olivia walked out then, her hips swaying. "C'mon Romeo and Juliet."
I smiled and turned back to Solos. He twirled one of my curls with his finger. He whispered in my ear, "I have a surprise for you later." and then we were out the door. The electric blue light of Mainxx's blinked, and and electric guitar sound floated out. Welcome to New York, 1998, everyone.
