That was it

That was it. With two simple words her world shattered. Everything she worked for, everything she wanted. Everything she wished for, hoped for and dreamed of. Everything was gone. It's not like she wasn't expecting this. Every ounce of logic inside her told her the reasons why it was a bad idea. But even though she had spent hours rationalizing why, and how it was better for both of them this way, as soon as she spoke those two words everything inside her collapsed just the same. What consumes you, eventually destroys you.

Just like that.

One breath. Two words. Three syllables. Four minutes of silence and five steps to the door.

With all those things now living inside her it was hard to feel anything but numb.

Numb to the world, numb to the future, numb to her tears, numb to everything except the fist lodged inside her heart. You'd think she'd want it not to hurt, but it's the only solace she has right now, so she revels in it.
She can still feel Sam on her skin; still taste her on her lips. There will never be anything or anyone else. Nothing will ever come close.

But she's still the one who walked away. Somewhere deep inside her it's only appropriate that she's ruined now.

Because Sam wanted her.

Sam came to her, told her everything she'd waited and wanted to hear, and she couldn't follow through. Even as the love of her life broke down in front of her, all that Brooke could do was crawl into the hollow shell of popularity she'd built for herself and continue to protect her image.

She hated herself. The fist inside struck harder.

Closing her eyes she became haunted by images and sounds. Memories came flooding in like tears and she allowed herself to drown in them.

With her head in her hands Brooke McQueen let out sob, after painful sob, only managing to mutter one thing.

"I'm sorry…"

Feedback for meeee? Constructive critism? Let's have it! Lol.
