So, yesterday morning I woke up with "Just the way you are" by Bruno Mars on my mind and my clever brain connected it with Percy singing it to Annabeth.
My wide-awake-dream was something like this.
Just the way you are
Percy was holding Annabeth close to him because a) the bed was too small for two people to sleep in it and b) he wanted to feel her close. Since they were back from Thartarus, he needed her to be close to him physically.
She was asleep, or this was what Percy thought. She started sobbing and pressed her face on Percy's t-shirt.
"Hey, Annabeth…" he tried to pull her away to see her face. Her eyes were closed: she was crying in her sleep. So Percy gently shook her shoulder to wake her up.
Her eyes opened in terror and surprise. "What - I… I was… Oh, Percy!" She threw her arms around Percy's neck, sobbing. "I was… was back in there and I couldn't… I couldn't see anymore just like…"
Percy cuddled her, caressing her hair and her back until she calmed down. "I am here." He kept saying to her ear.
"I'm sorry… I shouldn't…"
"It's ok," he stopped her. Percy grabbed her face into his hands and looked in her eyes. "I'm here with you to keep you safe."
A sad smile came on her lips as she leaned forward to kiss him gently.
"Do you want to go back to sleep?" he whispered as Annabeth put her head on his chest.
She shook her head. "Don't want to have nightmares again."
"Well, my mother used to sing to me when I had bad dreams…"
She laughed "You want to sing to me?"
Percy smiled and cleared his throat. "I can sing!"
"Hope Apollo doesn't hear you!" she teased him, laughing.
Percy thought a few seconds about the song he knew better, then started singing. "Oh, her eyes, her eyes make the stars look like they're not shining. Her hair, her hair falls perfectly without her trying. She's so beautiful and I tell her everyday."
Well, let's say he talked or rapped more than sang. Annabeth laughed for his voice and the song he chose.
"Hey, this is Paul's favourite song! I once heard him singing it from the shower."
"Oh, seaweed Brain. You are amazing, just the way you are." she softly sang and then kissed him, before fall again in a sleep without nightmares.
