Authors Note: This is just a short story written after a plot bunny bit me
the other day. Legolas is what would, in human years, be five years old...
~*~A morning with pancakes ~*~
Legolas padded out of his room early in the morning, even before the cook had awoken, much less gone to the kitchen to prepare the breakfast.
He wanted to surprise his parents by preparing something nice for them to eat for breakfast. He had settled for pancakes though he had never successfully made anything that needed cooking. But he had asked Aesell, the cooks assistant, for a recipe for making pancakes, he had not asked the cook, because the cook had seen him in a kitchen before, and would never allow him in the kitchen again. But this time, he was sure, he would succeed. He had been reading the recipe over and over again, to be able to do it right for once.
As he entered the kitchen he looked around him for a bowl so that he could mix all the ingredients he needed. At first he couldn't find it but then all of a sudden he saw the bowls. Unfortunately for him they were on the highest shelve.
Determined as he was to make pancakes for his parents he set for climbing cupboard, but when he was halfway up he by accident pushed down all the plates at that shelve.
He kept climbing though, now when he had broken all the plates it was even more important for him to be able to make some good pancakes for his parents, to prove that he could cook.
When Legolas finally reached the uppermost shelve he took hold of the bowl and then suddenly he realised that he had let go of the cupboard to do so...
He made a quiet gasp a he fell, but he did not make too much of a sound, afraid to wake up anyone who slept near the kitchen.
"Well I got the bowl down all right" he said to himself and then he went on.

Two hours later Aesell entered the kitchen as he always did early in the morning to prepare the breakfast. The sight that greeted him this morning was a very messy one; there were flour all over the floor, a few chickens were walking around and there were several smashed eggs all over the floor.
Aesell went inside to see who had made such a mess and over by the oven he found an elfling sleeping soundly with a bowl filled with pancake batter.
Aesell smiled to himself, took the bowl from the kid and started heating up the oven. While the oven heated up he managed to clean up the entire kitchen and get the chicken to the chicken yard.
When he was finished cleaning up he started making the pancakes, so when Thranduril and his wife woke up and went to the dining hall they were greeted by a beaming Legolas offering them the finest pancakes made.
"Did you make those Lasse?" asked his mother. Legolas nodded proudly while Aesell stood beside him, smiling knowingly.
That morning was one of the best, but for some reason Aesell always remembered to lock the door in the future...
