We can sit here and wish that the world never changed, that we could just go to sleep one night and wake up and everything would be perfect. We would have a perfect life, the perfect companion, the perfect everything, but somehow in the end it would all be a lie. We can try so hard to block out the voices of the world, but in the end, it's the voices who rule supreme.

Jaiden scanned the parking lot hesitantly. Unlike most humans, Jaiden's senses were very keen. She could sense the creature close buy, hunting her. It was not human, she knew that. Humans could not move with the stealth and agility that this thing did. Jaiden slowed her walk. She had never encountered anything like this. Her pulse quickened with excitement. What could this strange thing be?

Suddenly a hand wrapped around the back of her neck, gently, oh so gently, but with enough pressure to tell her that the hand could snap her neck if she protested.

"Who are you," Jaiden whispered at where she thought the face of this creature was.

"A mere mortal asks who I am," the voice seemed to laugh, a female voice, "I remember when I was foolish and headstrong, like you. I would not go back to that for the world. I am called Risika. Have you heard of me?"

The funny thing was, Jaiden knew the name, but not from real life.

"Risika," she started, "as in, Risika from Tiger, Tiger?"

"Do not speak of that book to me, child," Risika spat, "lies that show vulnerability. We vampires do not like such things. But the writer has been, dealt with. So you know me?"

"I know your story," Jaiden whispered, "..Are, are you going to kill me?"

Risika laughed. It was a laugh that chilled the bone. The hairs on Jaiden's neck stood on end.

"The idea has crossed my mind," Risika said, nuzzling her face against Jaiden's neck, "it has crossed my mind many times, just like now."

With the final word, Risika pushed back Jaiden's deep brown hair and sank her fangs into her flesh. Jaiden wilted in her arms. The sweet, warm blood flowed into Risika, fulfilling her bloodlust, clearing her mind, and refreshing her body.

As the life returned to Risika, Jaiden's life faded away until the sweet, black oblivion took her and lulled her into nothingness, lured her to her death.

Risika did not bother to cover the body. The police just thought there was some kind of strange animal biting bodies, and Risika was very prone to "convincing" these officers that it was true. Besides, with her power, it was easy to put such ideas in their minds.

Laughing, Risika disappeared into the night, without a thought of what would come tomorrow.
