"Calm down Marie, if this works, we have no need for worry."
"Ya'll understand the consequences? After this she'll be his forever. There's no going back once its done." A tall dark figure held a wine glass to the baby's mouth and waited for the family to respond.
"Just do it, nothing could be worse than the alternative."
And with that, he tipped the glass and left within a second of the baby drinking
"Luna wake up your gonna be late!" Sheyla screamed up the stairs as my phone alarm started to blare in my ear.
"Ugh, can't my brain think of anything else to dream about at night? This is getting annoying." Since my 17th birthday passed a few weeks ago, every night, every dream has been the same. The only thing I know from it is my mothers name being said but other than that, it's all dream.
"LUNA!"
"Danngit woman I'm up!" Every since I turned two Sheyla had been my guardian and in many ways my teacher. Without her, I don't know where I would be right now. When I was two, Sheyla had brought me home from the park to find my parents brutally murdered. There was blood all over the walls and floors and the bodies were barely recognizable. To this day, their murders are open cases but no detective dare touch them. Sheyla took me in and now, unfortunately, I live in sunny Tampa, Florida and go to Sickles High School. I hate the sun…with a passion. Heat just ain't my thing.
Coming down the stairs in my new skinny jeans and We The Kings shirt, I could smell the cinnamon toast Sheyla made for breakfast. "I know you love cooking, but really? Cinnamon toast again? Don't you know how to make eggs or something?" I grinned.
Sheyla grinned and threw powdered sugar at me. "Can't you just say thanks for not letting me starve Aunt Sheyla? I mean really, how hard is that?" She placed a plate in front of me and started doing dishes. "Oh, Luna, your work called and asked if you could work again tonight. Will and Sean called out again which only gives them two people to close. I said you'd be fine with it so go there straight after school k?"
"Thanks for ruining my life…jk. God knows I need the hours." Looking around the room I saw the power had gone out in the night. Third time this week. I looked at my watch and panicked at the time. "Love ya gotta go. Ill see ya later tonight." I ran for the door and grabbed my keys; hopefully today I wont be late.
