IceK"

Charity?"

Phineas' voice was small and she could barely feel his soft touch on her arm.

„Charity? Are you awake?"

She opened her eyes and blinked to the warm sun, „Yes."

Phineas smiled, „I have to go now. The circus…you know?"

Circus

Charity sighed, „I do. What time is it?"

She turned around and viewed her husband with a tired look.

„Eight o'clock.", Phin answered, „I've got an appointment with the bank."

He stood up, „I'm home at four. What about tonight's diner? In a restaurant? Just you and me? The girls at your parent's house?"

She smiled even more, „Sounds great."

Phineas kissed her softly on the forehead, „I've to go."

He was just about to leave the room, as Charity lifted her head once more.

„Phin?", she smiled, „I love you. And the way you woke me up this morning."

And with him laughing, the door closed and Charity was alone again.

"Mommy!", Helen shouted, "Mommy can you please make us an cacao?"

Charity blinked tiredly, "Calm down, Helen. It's just eleven o'clock."

Helen nodded, "I know. And Caroline and me want a cacao."

Charity sighed, "I'm gonna ask Frances..."

But she was interrupted by her daugther, "No! I hate Frances' cacao! I want yours!"

"Helen! Language!"

The little girl ignored it, "Mom please!"

"Well...ok.", Charity said and stood up.

The sun shone warm and the birds tweeted, "But you two are gonna be quiet! Or i'm going to drink the cacao myself."

And suddenly it was quiet.

Completely silence.

Charity pulled on her dressing gown and went to the kitchen.

As she entered the second floor on her way back to Carolines and Helens room, she passed Phins Office.

The lamp was still shining.

Sighing, Charity placed the glasses with the cacao on the chair and leaned over the office desk to delete the light.

There laid the newspapers and on the front page...

Charitys breath stopped.

Barnum Scandal!

Jenny Lind quits - Is it an affair?!

Charity didn't have to read more.

There was a photo.

A photo of Phineas and this Jenny Lind! Kissing!

Charity sobbed without any tears.

He deceived her!

With that Lind-woman!

Another sob fled her throat.

How could he?!

It hurted that much!

As if thousand little Needles would sting her heart.

"Mommy!", Helens voice sounded thorugh the floor.

Charity couldn't suppress the sob.

"Mommy! What about our cacao?"

She wanted to stand up and rumple the newspaper, but she wasn't able to move."

In this moment, Caroline and Helen entered the room.

Carolines smile disappeared, "Mom? Is everything okay? What are you doing here?"

Charity sighed out loud.

She took a deep breath, "We're leaving."

Helen lifted one eyebrow, "What?! Leaving? And what about Daddy?"

Charity shook her head, "Without your father. Hurry up! I don't wanna spend a second more in this house!"

Hesitating the girls left and Charity was just about to went out of the room, as she recognized a closed letter.

From the bank.

With trembling fingers she opened it and began to read.

Dear Mr. P.T. Barnum.

We are so sorry about to tell you, that you have to leave the house. The deadline for you to pay off your dept is over.

Sincerely,

Mr. Smith

That was enough.

The tears began to fall down her cheeks.

She took the letter in her coat pocket and ran to her room to pack her suitcase.

*

She had sended the girls to her parents a few minutes ago, so she could've a few moments for herself to collect her mind.

The shock seemed to turn into anger and anger was much easier to deal with.

Charity took her suitcase and looked into the mirror once more.

Her cheeks were stained and her eyes were coloured in red from crying.

She sighed.

Then she made her way to the front door.

"Charity?"

Her heart stopped pounding.

Phineas!

First there was just his voice, but then he entered the entrance and they were face to face.

He looked panicked, "Oh my God, Charity!"

She forced herself to walk.

Her look was as cold as ice, "I don't wanna talk!"

"Nothing happened!"

She snorted, "Uuh?! Nothing happened?! It's on the cover of every newspaper of New York! I wouldn't call that nothing!"

Phineas stepped after her, "But...She arranged the photo! I am not in love with her!"

Charity turned around, tears were splinning down her cheeks, "Of course you're not! Not with her! Not with me! With anyone! Just you and your show!"

Phineas hesitated, "That's not true! I don't love her!"

"You don't have to love someone to sleep with him.", Charity whispered.

Phineas' eyes widened, "Where are you going?"

"I'm going home!"

"What? Wait...this is your home!", Phin said.

More tears fall down her cheeks, "You don't even know!"

She pulled out the letter from the bank, "The bank...they threw us out!"

She sobbed, "W-Why didn't you ask me before?! I never was against the risk! But we were meant to do it together!"

Charity was about to leave, but Phineas gripped her by the arm, "We always did! And we always will do it together!"

But Charity shook her head, "No. No, Phineas. It's over! There's no together!"

*

The following days were painful and sad.

Even more sad than the days when Phineas had been on tour.

Because at this time she'd known that Phin would return and everything would be like it once was.

But now she didn't.

She didn't because she knew that Phineas had leave her forever.

Maybe she would never see him again...maybe the girls wouldn't see him again.

But maybe it was the best.

Because Charity knew, that she wouldn't survive an encouter.

She couldn't look in his beautiful brown-blue eyes, couldn't kiss his perfectly curved lips, couldn't touch his soft hair...

A sob ran out of her mouth.

"Mom?"

All looks laid on her.

Mrs Hallet layid down her cutlery, "Charity? Is everything okay?"

Charity cleared her throat, "I-i think so...i just need some...fresh air."

She stood up, folded her napkin and fled out of the room.

Another sob fled her throat.

Charity had been right!

There was no together!

And there wouldn't ever be one again.
