Genuine Kiss

She looked at the fresh tears on her newly-stained book.

'Why am I doing this?' she thought, 'Why am I loving him, so deeply now?'

Lily Marie Evans sat on the window-seat in the Gryffindor girls seventh year dorms. James Potter had been nothing but a pest for three years, friend for three, and now, on the seventh year, she loved him like she had never loved before.

"Lily, I love you," he had said to her, and as he said that, she realized that she too, loved him in return. As the thought crossed her mind, a single tear ran down her face, leaving a trail that represented happieness, sadness, and everything in-between.

"I... I'm sorry, James. I can't, I just can't," Lily replied, turned on her heel, and ran up to the dorms.

She didn't mean she couldn't love him, she already did. She just couldn't accept the fact that he loved her back, no matter how much it was purely, truly, one hundred percent him, she couldn't accept it. James had been a friend, nothing more and she couldn't stand to see their relationship ripped apart, as easily as an ancient piece of paper, if one thing went wrong.

As she thought, she realized that she had just ripped their relationship apart, by denying his love.

She got up, set her book down, and headed down to the Common Room where she searched for James, but didn't see him. She spotted Sirius, though. He would know where James was.

"Sirius, where's James? I need to talk to him!" Lily cried.

"He took his invisibility cloak, down by the lake," he replied.

Lily ran across the room, through the portrait hole, and down seven flights of stairs. When she got to the Entrance Hall, she saw the great oak doors slightly open. Without stopping, she thrust out her palms and pushed as she ran. Still, she didn't stop. She didn't care if she collapsed, just as long as she got to James first.

She ran past the gamekeepers cabin, down to the lake where she saw James, his knees pulled up to his chest, staring across the misty, magical waters of the grand lake. She slowed to a walk and kneeled beside him. She grabbed his hand and pulled him up. He didn't resist, for he had barely any energy left.

He looked away, still glaring angrily at the lake as if it were the lake's fault that Lily denied him.

"James, look at me."

He didn't look, so Lily turned his face torward her.

"James, I'm sorry. It was so hard to accept what you said. Truth be told, I didn't even think you liked me that much, but I still loved you."

This got his attention and he turned to her himself. He stared into her eyes, searching for a lie, but didn't find one.

He laid his hand on her cheek, gently pulling her towards him. She leaned in and kissed him. It was a passionate kiss, full of more love than two teens could ever imagine.

It was a genuine kiss.
