Kate sat staring out her window, curled up against the cold glass. The day was rainy, dark and gloomy, a perfect match to her emotions. Not that anything about this day was perfect. The murderer of her mother had gotten off free basically- he died, and even death isn't enough for a sick bastard like that. Right now she felt as if her mother was nowhere near her- except for her ring. That would always be with her, never would she- could she- let it go.
Yes, Kate Beckett felt broken, broken and hollow, and there was no one to pick the shattered pieces up and put them back together. Feeling tears begin to well up in her puffy, red eyes, she let out a small moan and sunk onto her bed, beginning to descend again into a world of terrifying solitude and darkness, pressing in, trying to crush her. As sobs began to once again rack her body, a text came on her phone.
Hours later, when she saw it, her heart seemed to start beating again. She felt her heart lift out of the crushing sorrrow and darkness. For a moment, she almost believed it would be okay. The message was from Castle. It said only two words, but those words spoke volumes. They said,
U okay?
