He was mesmerized.
Yes he was mesmerized by her beauty and the way she walked, arms swinging lightly against the breeze as her gentle braids swayed in the air around the soft curves of her face. Her lips, light pink like the Dantooine sky at sunset, grabbed his attention and did not relinquish it. Her smooth, pale skin was bright in the orange sun, shining like polished marble. Her eyes, such a stormy gray flecked with blue like a massive sea storm raged around her pupils like whirlpools. Her eyes were so light and crystalline he could feel himself melting and drowning within them, sucked down into the abyssal vortex in the very center. He was drowning and he loved it, he loved it so much that it gave him chills to think about. His palms were sweaty.
Sometimes it would be like this. He would be with her by themselves, walking through the Jedi Enclave as she tried to teach him, although he was scarcely listening. She would flow through the air like water, raising her arms and manipulating the very world around her like it was nothing at all. Raw power blossomed from her finger tips and raised the stones and twigs around her into the air, twirling them about her like she were the center of a small galaxy and everything revolved around her, circling her in slow, sluggish orbits. She would speak as she did this but he would not hear her words, only the beautiful sound of her voice, it's pleasing hum soothing all his worries and fears. It was an enchanting sight, and it engrossed him. He traced her figure with his eyes and it was like he was teleported to Heaven and he was gazing upon an Angel. Rays of sun peaked through the open ceiling of the Enclave and caressed her face. Her eyes sparkled like rain drops in the light and her light brown hair shimmered with shades of caramel. Her hair seemed so soft and so warm.
With the care one would take when handling a new born child, she lowered her arms and the rotating discs of debris floated to the ground, brushing the ground like feathers. He could feel her aura expanding and surrounding him, and he instantly felt his muscles go lax. His confidence bubbled. His heart was beginning to pound and roar in his ears. He would say something here and now. He would put his feelings to words and he would . . .
"Varen!" she snapped, storm raging in her eyes, "Are you even listening to anything I'm saying?"
All at once Varen snapped out of his trance. Her stern eyes and scowling lips melted away the lie immediately mounting on his lips. Normally he would act like he heard everything, but despite what his brain told him his heart held him back. The words in his head, born of his prior courage and full of compliments and bravado, which were bubbling up to the top of his throat, receded. There would be another time, he figured. A better time when she wasn't about to rip her hair out from frustration. His passion became tame once again and his heartbeat simmered to a low thud.
He thought of what to say and smiled as the sun reflected off her warm brown hair, "I didn't hear a single word."
She started scolding him but he didn't hear a thing. He was already mesmerized again.
