It's been a while, so I wanted to upload a little something. Life has been really hectic and I haven't uploaded like I should… So this is a small fruit of labor for yall! It's a bit of a tease and fairly short, so be warned…

The early evening light shone through the living room window. The quietness of the moment permeated every inch of everything. Double D exhaled deeply and scratched his head. Kevin had just gotten on the bus to football camp and the nerd already missed him terribly. "This seems to be more of a challenge than even I expected," he thought. D pulled out his phone only to see no notifications. Huffing audibly, the boy sank into the couch. "What to do with myself," he wondered aloud. Just then, he spotted a very familiar red cap on the cushion next to him. Attached was a sticky note. "How could I have missed this," he asked himself. Peeling the note from the top of the cap, he smiled. There, in what was an all too familiar scrawling handwriting, was a message from the one person who meant the world to him. It read: "I know I'll only be gone for a few weeks but I know how bad you're going to miss me. Don't worry, I'm nervous about being away from you too. So, I'm leaving you my favorite hat to wear. Put it on any time you miss me. Oh, and don't worry, I made sure it's clean. I love you, Dork!" Edd sighed, and his eyes watered lightly. "Oh Kevin," he murmured lovingly, "what would I do without you?" He slid his trademark beanie off and put on his lover's trusty baseball cap. "Maybe this time apart won't be so bad after all" said the nerd.
The next day, after going through his chores and even watching a documentary on tide pools, the genius realized he was bored. With both and Ed and Eddy away on vacation, he had no one to hang out with. Just then, he thought to call Kevin over and stopped short when the realization that Kevin wasn't in town struck him. D was overwhelmed by a feeling of loneliness he hadn't felt in a long time. Ever since Kevin ad come into his world, he was the happiest that he had been in a long time. He rushed upstairs to his room and grabbed Kevin's hat. The genius held it close to him for a moment and then pushed the hat onto his raven hair. Going back downstairs, he sat down on the plush couch and hugged himself. Just then, he was startled by the ringing of his cell phone in his pocket. Picking it up, he saw the redhead's smiling face across the screen and answered it. "Hello Kevin," he smiled into the phone. "You get my gift babe?", his lover asked. "Yes, I found it just fine. You can be so thoughtful at times" replied Double D. The jock on the other end chuckled. "I'll be back before you know it," said Kevin. After a moment of thought, Double D responded. "I won't take your hat off because I miss you terribly. Once you're back here in my arms, you can take it off of me, along with everything else." At the prompt of a slight choking noise from the ginger, the nerd smiled and giggled. "After all," said the genius, "coming home is much better than leaving." The jock made a growling noise that reassured Double D that his boyfriend's homecoming was going to be an event indeed.
