Anna's Diary

Dear Diary,

Today was a very unexceptional day. I spent most of the day with my tutor, learning about our soil, the kind of plants that thrive in our climate and ugh! I don't want to talk about that boring sh-*inkblot*. Especially after the day I had planned.

I mean, today was supposed to be THE DAY. The Day I showed Elsa that I'm mature and capable. Capable of taking the right decisions, capable of being a proper ruler. I wanted to sit alongside her during the petitions and show her that I could be as compassionate and merciful as she is. I even had my dress and hairdo picked out but it was all in vain.

And it's all his fault.

If he hadn't chosen to send his missive today (it could have been tomorrow, the day after. It could have gotten lost in the snowdrift that's bound to shut us up in a couple of days but nope. It just HAD to come today), Elsa wouldn't have gotten upset and we wouldn't have to cancel the Audience. It must have been really cruel. Maybe he's dissolving our relations. Maybe he's raising prices and Elsa's worried about how we'll pull through the Winter without their support.

And the poor thing was so upset. I actually saw her tears in her eyes as she tucked away the letter (that rat b*inkblot*). And I know that while she's been working on controlling her powers, she can't help lose control when she's upset or really happy (it's usually upset more than happy). I offered to write him some choice words but she just laughed in this very tearful way and excused herself, leaving me with most of the porridge.

WHY COULDN'T HIS STUPID TRADE TREATY WAIT ANOTHER COUPLE OF WEEKS? I know they've been exchanging so many letters (at least a couple a week. One of our messengers is forever sailing to the Southern Isles. He jokes that he's practically a Southerner himself) as they try to hammer out a trade treaty that works for both them and Arendelle. Elsa was holding up pretty well underneath all the stress; I haven't seen her this happy in a long time and it's Winter, her favourite season. I bet that's why that damn monarch decided to ruin it for all of us. Because he has to have a miserable sunny Christmas in the Southern Isles.

Like brother, like…er older brother. You'd think at least one of Hans' TWELVE brothers would be a decent human being but if the eldest is so rotten, how are the youngest supposed to be any good?

Poor Elsa. Poor poor Elsa. If I knew what he looks like, I'd make a tiny little doll and convince Kristoff to teach me how to do voodoo. I heard from the servants that she vanished after breakfast and hasn't come back yet, in from the cold. I'd be really worried if ice weren't her element. She's comfortable out there in the cold in a way that she's never really been here in this big castle.

I hear someone knocking on the door. It must be Olaf. I asked him to keep an eye out for Elsa. Catch you later!

Elsa's Journal

He said yes.
