Title: Dance
Author: Spaz
Summary: A dance doesn't have to have set steps to be a dance.
Hinata had decided a long time ago that fighting with Neji wasn't really fighting. It was an intricate dance without set steps, but with a beat all the same. A step there, a strike here, blue splashed brightly against white between them. It was a dance that made Hinata's breath come in short and her chest burn.
Neji danced far faster then she did, stepping from place to place and whirling around her in a pattern she could barely discern. He was far better then Hinata, but she never stopped. She kept pace as best she could and she forced herself to move beyond what she thought were her limits. She made herself move beyond what everyone else thought her limits were.
But inevitably, she always found herself on the ground, gasping for air. Neji stood over her, barely panting, his lips twisted into a frown. Slowly, coughing, Hinata rolled over to her side, and then to her knees, slowly pushing up.
Neji only shook his head. "Why do you get up?"
Hinata wavered for a moment and then found herself on her feet. Wiping away the little bit of blood and dirt that had collected, the Hyuuga heir pushed her feet back into position and raised her arms. She squared her shoulders and lifted her head as she met her cousin's gaze. "Because I can."
There was a moment and then Neji was smirking, sliding into a position that mirrored her own. "Good. Now, again."
And the dance would begin again, more furious then the last. Around and around they would go until neither could stand and both their chests burned with the lack of air. Only then did Hinata allow the tempo to slow and the beat to fade from the air. But it would always begin again the next day and the day after that, never ending and never fading.
Because she could, Hinata danced.
