Hahaha, okay, for those of you who don't get this, you'll need to watch "How the Ghosts Stole Christmas" (season 5) of X-Files. It's not only a great episode, but a reference point for this MSR one-shot. ENJOY!
"Payback" a Mulder/Scully one-shot by Meg Trast
Totally. Not. Fair.
"Scully..." He was so flustered, he couldn't even think of anything to say.
"Yes, Mulder?"
Oh no. He thought. Don't you dare play cute and innocent with me. "You know what, Scully."
She was doing that grinning thing. She rarely did it, and normally he thought it was cute.
No. He told himself. She didn't play fair, and you know it. Stop acting like a twitter pated teenager.
"You knew. You knew the whole time. And you also know how much I hate that man."
That eyebrow went up. And since when did Scully become so smug? It was usually him pulling harmless-yet-hopelessly-obnoxious stunts like that. Not her.
She was the level-headed one!...Right?
"Give them back." He said.
"Mmmm..." She was thoughtful.
His jaw dropped. She was actually considering stranding him here. Fine. He'd have to take them back.
He lunged at her. She shoved him away at first, but he was totally bigger. But she was laughing.
"I don't have them, Mulder!"
What? Didn't she just... "Whaddya mean?!"
"I hid them."
"Here?"
"Nope."
Alright, something had to give. First, though, he would try talking her out of it.
"Why?"
"Why what?"
"Why'd you do it, Scully?"
She stared at a case file. "I don't know what you're talking about."
He glared daggers, before realization hit him. "Christmas...you..." The woman could hold a grudge!
She didn't speak.
"Give them back, Scully."
"What do you say?" That grin was bigger.
He couldn't believe it. He could not believe it. Five years. Five years passed. And she was getting him back for a desperate prank.
Simply 'please' wouldn't do it. He knew that.
He put both hands on his desk, behind which she was now seated, and leaned toward her, until their faces were four inches apart. He turned his mouth upside down and twisted his eyebrows into a sad expression.
"Pleeeaaase can I have my keys back, Scully?"
She smiled.
