Author's Note: So. This piece. I don't even really know what to say about it. I just kind of got the desire to write something that I wouldn't normally. And, generally speaking, I'm not really much for pairing fics. So, I thought, 'Okay, now pick a pairing that you haven't seen before.' So here this story is. I'm not saying it's entirely original... just that I haven't seen these two together before.
So, that said, in my mind this takes place around early season two for White Collar and mid to late season eight for Smallville.
Also... neither of the two characters in this story are ever really named. I think though, that if you know both shows you won't have a problem.
Disclaimer: White Collar and Smallville are both very definately not mine. Oh, how I wish they were though...
Things Better Left Unsaid
They met on a Tuesday.
He was working on solving a jewelry heist.
She was tracking one of the meteor-infected.
They met up once a month after that.
Always on a Tuesday.
His life was in Manhattan.
She didn't have a set home anymore so it stood to reason she would come to him.
She had secrets.
She didn't tell him everything.
He didn't begrudge her that.
How could he?
He kept secrets too.
She knew he didn't love her.
She knew he was using her.
She figured it was only fair since she was using him.
It didn't escape his notice that she never mentioned where she came from or the people in her life before him.
Another thing he couldn't really hold against her.
She didn't think he told her much that was real.
He was all wit and charm and dazzling smiles and she had only to look at his ankle to know there was more.
They both knew they were each thinking of someone else when they were together.
That was okay.
In the end, their relationship wasn't really about openness or even about trust.
That, like most things between the two of them, neither felt the need to acknowledge.
It was enough that they both silently knew.
Enough that they had these few stolen moments once a month.
Stolen moments that they could both forget, or remember, as they saw fit.
They met on a Tuesday.
He was working on solving a jewelry heist.
She was tracking one of the meteor-infected.
That was how it started.
That was how their paths crossed.
They continue to meet on Tuesdays.
They've decided the rest is irrelevant.
For now, this is what they have.
For now, this is enough.
-End.
