Kiss in the End

A walk in the park during a windy autumn day. I watched the leaves fall off colorful trees. I felt something slide through my waist. It tickled me, which made me jump away. "Rufus!" I giggled. "You're late… Again."

"Oh, come on, you're just early." He put his hands around me again to pull me close.

I hit his head lightly. "So, where are we going today?" Every weekend, Rufus and I go out and do something together and it's always something different. Last week, he brought me to the beach. The week before that, he took me to a Japanese restaurant. Since Rufus and I have been going out for almost a year now, he knows practically everything about me.

"Oh, I don't know. I was planning we could just walk around the park and talk. You know, catch up on things." He shrugged.

This was something… New. We never did anything like this before. I looked at him suspiciously. "What are you up to?"

"What? Come on, Tifa, I'm not up to anything." He looked up at the clear blue sky. "I know you want something else, but I just didn't have so much time this week to plan anything."

"Oh. Sure. I understand. It's fine." I wasn't lying. You know these guys, straight A student, captain of the basketball team, and good-looking, which leads to having all their energy for the day drained out by running away from screaming girls, all of them going 'gaga' on them. Rufus is one of these guys, and almost every girl in school is jealous. But I ignore them, I'm just happy to be with Rufus. Since the fifth grade, I have had a MAJOR crush on him, and now, my dream has come true.

"Oh, hey, for winter, I got us reservations for Ski Paz. Ask permission from your parents. It would be for 2 days. Don't forget to bring your skiing stuff." Did I forget to mention, Rufus is one of the richest people I know. So whenever we go out, he can do a lot of things just to make it fabulous.

After minutes of walking, talking, laughing, and eating, we sat down on the park bench. I shivered. The seat was cold. "Wow, it's getting colder by the day, isn't it?" Rufus was staring at me differently. "What?"

"Nothing." But he still kept looking at me. His face got closer to mine.

I think I knew where this was going, but Rufus and I never, ever did this, not even once. "Rufus, what are you doing?" He didn't answer. So I just went along with him. 16 years of waiting, so maybe this would be it. And I would finally know why my 20-year-old sister says it feels so good.

Rufus' face got closer and closer… And closer. Until, I could hear and feel him breathing. He moved his face toward me for two more inches. I could feel his cold nose on mine. I closed my eyes.

I felt something wet on my cheek. Well, that was not what I was expecting. I felt a loud and strong breathing in front of me. I opened my eyes.

"Eeww!" I saw our dog, drooling over my face. "Sina! Get out of here. I was just about to kiss Rufus!" I stood up and shooed the dog away.

I got back up on my bed and went back to sleep. Come on give me a break. A girl can dream right?
