A/N: I've always wanted to try a prompt fic, but I never understood where people got the prompts. Then after reading some of Jimelda's A Thousand Different Words (you should definitely check it out if you haven't already) I discovered 64damn_prompts on live journal. I liked this one and kind of just went with it. I'm experimenting a little with the format, which is kind of weird. I'd love if you could leave a quick review telling me what you think!
Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoy!

Prompt: wire
It's like walking on a wire.
Careful. Always being careful. Trying not to fall. Trying not to lose control.
Balance. It's all about balance. Balancing your time. The mornings working out, the afternoon's plain working, the night with Aaron and Claire. She tries cooking. She tries baking. She tries lying down on Jack's side of the bed and doing nothing, but Claire won't allow it. If you lie down in the center of a tightrope you'll fall. Claire says she's been there done that, and Kate doesn't really see why she isn't allowed a turn.
Focus. One foot in front of the other. Careful. Balance. You're in the center of a tightrope, and you can't think about what's behind you or what's below you. Just focus on moving forward. One foot in front of the other. Moving forward. Forwardforwardfoward. That's what they want her to do. Move forward. Move on. Make it to the other side.
She's standing on the center of a wire a hundred miles high. Below her is the cold ocean water and they tell her to put one foot in front of the other, to be careful, not to fall. But the wind is making the wire sway and it's not so easy to keep your balance when you are so high up. And maybe she should fall. Maybe if she falls in just the right place, she'll land on the island.
And Jack will be there waiting.
