A/n I got the idea for this story when I couldn't fall asleep at summer camp IT WILL BE OOC and it is obviously AU
Percy POV
"Percy"
"Dad?"
"You must enter the Hunger Games"
"What?"
"You have to save a demigod. Both of you will be important in the future"
"Wait…what? Who?" I asked. I was so confused.
"Percy…Percy…PERCY!"
I surfaced from beneath the waves to see one of my best friends, Finnick Odair. Yes, the Finnick Odair, Victor of the 65th Hunger Games. We're actually distantly related. He's my half-brother's and my distant cousin's son. Maybe I should explain how that's legal…
The ancient Greek Gods from before the Dark Days are real. My father is Poseidon. As in God of the Sea, Earth shaker, Father of Horses, yeah, that guy. Finnick's dad is another of my dad's sons. He's dead. Finn's mom is the goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite. Apparently he's attractive. I guess he gets it from his mom. He also has his dad's eyes which are also my dad's eyes. Along with that he also inherited the love of water and skills with a trident all sea god descendants get.
"Dude, you're gonna miss the reaping if you don't hurry up!" he said.
"You must enter the Hunger Games" My dad's voice echoed in my mind. What demigod could be so important?
"What time is it?" I asked
"9:50-ish"
"SHIT!" I quickly got out of the ocean and willed myself dry. Being the son of the sea god, I can do that. Even though my house was a few minutes away from the beach I was cutting it close. I still needed to get dressed and actually get to the reaping. Mom and Gabe (Ew) would not be happy.
When I got to my house I tried to slip in quietly and go unnoticed. That plan failed when I walked into the door, causing a loud SMACK! The door was locked! I had (stupidly) tried to open the door and walk through it but it (obviously) didn't open.
Click!
Oh shit.
"Percy! You're late, we have to go no or we won't make it in time! You don't even have time to change!" my mom exclaimed.
You're supposed to dress up for the reaping but apparently I was going in my trunks. That wasn't my biggest problem though. I figured I should probably tell my mom about my dad's message.
"Hey mom?" I started
"Yes honey?"
"When I was swimming dad talked to me"
She looked stunned. He hadn't contacted me in a while.
"What did he say?" she asked a few seconds later after she had recovered.
"He said I had to-"
"SALLY!" before I could finish he interrupted.
"Yes Gabe?" she answered unbelievably nicely.
"What are we still doing here? The peacekeepers are going to come if we don't leave." He ranted
For a minute I thought he actually cared about our well-being.
"If you get executed, who will cook for me?" I should have known better. "I don't want to be killed cuz Kelp Head over here can't tell time" he was one to talk. He had about as much intelligence as a turnip. Gabe Ugliano, Smelly Gabe as I like to call him, is my stepfather. He…well, smells. He's also a lazy bum. My mom has to work extra hard to keep him happy. I don't even know why she stays with him. Probably because if she divorced him he could take half of everything we own, which isn't much.
"We're leaving now Gabe, don't worry." She said patiently, "Come on Perce"
I guess she would have to wait to find out.
When we got to the town square I joined the other 16 year olds. I got some confused and strange looks. A few girls were also checking me out…ew. I saw that Finnick had taken his place on stage with the rest of the Victors. The mayor began the usual lecture about the Dark Days and the Rebellion, etc. When he was finished our district's escort, Ashby Keyes, stepped up.
"Happy Hunger Games!" she exclaimed before saying the famously annoying catch phrase of the games, "And may the odds be ever in your favor!" gag me with a spoon.
"Ladies first!" she continued perkily. She reached into the large glass ball and pulled out a single slip of paper.
"Our lucky lady is, Sierra Boyd." Oh dear gods why her? I knew I was going to be in the Games and that meant I'd have to spend time with her. She was one of my few fan girls at school. She was my age and apparently enjoyed flirting and creeping on me. As much as I hated her, I didn't want her to die though. Hopefully someone else would kill her in the arena so I wouldn't have to.
Sierra, after disentangling herself from her friends, slowly made her way to the stage. She was on the verge of tears, anyone could see that. Some of the Victors gave her sad smiles.
"Are there any volunteers?" Ashby asked. When no one responded she continued, "Now for our new male tribute!"
She pulled another slip from the second glass bowl.
"The male tribute of District 4 is Floyd McCauley!"
I'd never met him but I knew he was young. He was 13. Even if Finnick had won when he was 14 there was no way this kid would survive. He was, for lack of a better word, a nerd. Finnick had trained for years to win the Games, this guy would be lucky to last past the initial blood bath. Luckily for him he wasn't going in.
"Any volunteers?" Ashby asked again.
I sighed and raised my hand, "I volunteer!" I shouted.
Floyd looked relieved as I took his place on stage.
"What's your name hun?" Ashby asked me.
"Perseus Jackson, but call me Percy" I replied.
"Well aren't you a cutie!" Ashby said, ew creepy, "I give you, the District 4 tributes of the 74th Hunger Games!"
We shook hands, Sierra holding mine a little too tight, and were lead to the Capitol building by a few Peacekeepers.
The first person to visit me was my mom. She hugged me tight and could barely control her tears.
"Why did you volunteer?" she asked when she could talk again.
"I tried to tell you before, Dad told me I had to go in and save a demigod." I said.
She let out another loud sob, "but what about you? If she lives then you die!"
"The way he said it, it sounded like we would both live." I told her thinking back on his words.
"Promise me you'll try your hardest to live"
"You know I will! Plus Finnick will be my mentor." I said trying to comfort her. It seemed to make her a bit calmer.
A Peacekeeper came in and escorted her out. After her a few girls came in sobbing. To my surprise, Gabe came in after the girls left.
"What do you want" I asked icily.
"Try not to die. If you do your mom will go crazy and no one will be able to cook for me. Plus I want the money Victors get." He grunted
"When I win you won't touch a single penny from my winnings! You will stay away from me and my mom or I will kill you." I said heatedly
"Don't worry, you won't win anyway. You won't even make it to the Cornucopia." He shot back.
Luckily the Peacekeeper came back to get rid of Gabe and take me to the train.
When I got there Finnick, Mags, Ashby, and Sierra were waiting.
"Thank goodness!" Ashby exclaimed, "I'm glad you're here I thought we'd be late!"
Behind her Finnick was rolling his eyes. He must have heard that a billion times.
We all ate and talked for a while until it was time to watch the recap of the reaping. Every time the girl tribute was picked I wondered if it was that girl I was supposed to save. After the recap we all went to bed. I stopped Finnick to tell him what my father had said.
"I'll see what I can find out from the other Victors. They'll know if their tribute is a half-blood." He promised me.
What most people don't know is that all the Victors are demigods. Finnick is the son of Aphrodite. Wiress and Beetee are children of Hephaestus. Haymitch Abernathy is a son of Dionysus. Gloss, Cashmere, Enoboria, and Brutus are children of Ares. Annie Cresta is my sister. And so on and so forth.
"Ok let me know when you find out." And with that, I went to my room and quickly slipped into an unusually dreamless sleep.
Tada no flames please
