Love Me Like You Do
She was so giddy and nervous as she walked in scanning the room for any sign of him while the music played on around her.
"Looking for Banner already hu?…. "
Betty jumped spinning around in her high heeled shoes at the question finding an annoyed looking Tony Stark at her elbow. "What the General too busy to party crash now that Bruce's back on Shield's grid?"
"Tony be nice." Pepper scolded while she stepped forward giving the other woman an awkward but friendly hug. "What I want to know he's been back for all of what maybe a month…two at the most?" Stark shot back. "And that was even before Shield and the rest of us caught on he was back anyway."
"I am actually looking for him." She admitted cutting Tony off before he could continue and for Pepper to hit him over the head for saying something she hadn't heard while he took a drink. "I'm not here for that man or to help him in any way with his vendetta against Bruce." Betty defended straighten up as she met his eyes. Tony hesitated watching her calculatingly then relented with a small shrug. "Fine but if you hurt him again you deal with me." He warned in that big brother way as he pointed with his glass to the bar.
Betty nodded moving off toward the bar her eyes locked on Bruce's unaware form as he leaned against the railing uninterested in the party around him. Betty laughed to herself remembering how much Bruce hated parties even before the accident. She had to admit she felt like this reunion was something out of a fairytale as she pushed throw the crowd toward him in what seemed to her to be slow motion just as the opening notes of the song "Love Me Like You Do." started playing over the loudspeakers and she saw a wide smile spreading across his face as he turned as if he knew she was there waiting for him.
It wasn't until she moved closer did she realize he wasn't smiling at her.
He was smiling another woman and that smile only grow when she accepted his hand when she walked around from behind the bar and let him lead the way to the dance floor.
Betty followed them watching while they whispered to each other as they walked.
Bruce spun Natasha out jokingly before he took her hand again putting the other at her back while the opening notes of the song played around them. He had to admit that the song wasn't much of a song to slow dance to. The rhythms didn't match but they made it work. Besides, it was the words that he and Natasha liked not the beat.
He couldn't help but giggle when she started singing along against his ear when he pulled her closer now only moving in a slow circle around the floor while a few of the party goers stopped to watch them when he joined in singing it back to her softly.
The rest of them soon followed suit when out of nowhere Natasha unlocked her arms from Bruce's neck and pulled him in by the lapels of his jacket for a slow telling kiss when the song reached its climax.
It was when his arms wrapped around her waist when he kissed her back in return that Betty turned and walked out as quickly as she could. Trying to get to at least the door before her tears really started to fall.
