The Sun, the Moon and the Seven Stars
In early spring when the tempest tossed
And the birds hid for fear of being lost
Lucy leapt from her bed and ran, hair streaming
To where she could see the fire gleaming.
Beneath the sun and the moon
and the seven stars.

Peter, by the fireplace, held her close
His fingers gently stroking her head.
She could hear the soft owl hoot
As his voice smooth and low, said
"I promise I'll never leave you
By the sun and the moon and the seven stars."

Summer painted glory in the sky
And Lucy watched from her window, with a sigh
As Peter rode away to war.
Her voice rang after him, twining in the air
"Remember, brother, you promised.
By the sun and the moon and the seven stars."

Winter hobbled in on a knotted stick
And they carried him home on a stretcher.
Susan wept and told her he was sick.
But Lucy would not believe her
"He promised," she whispered, "By the sun,
"And the moon and the seven stars."

When she saw him, he was lying still
His eyes were closed and his breath was frail.
Lucy picked up his hand and kissed it
Her eyes gleaming with tears.
"You promised by the sun, the moon
And the seven stars."

Spring's warm breath touched the edge of the world
As they sat in the garden, watching the deer.
How did she know? Peter asked, leaning forward.
She laughed and spun as the sun mist swirled
"I knew brother dear, you wouldn't leave me here
"You swore by the sun and the moon and the seven stars
And you never break your word."
Author's Note:I don't often disgrace myself by attempting poetry, but this idea popped into my head one day and it didn't seem suited to a story. The seven stars are a concept that reoccurs in the Bible and classical literature. They are often equated with the Pleiades, the seven sisters or muses of Greek Mythology.
Basically, I used 'The sun and the moon and the seven stars' because I thought it sounded good...
