A choice of my own

Mito-san hanged the laundry to dry; she took a deep breath of fresh mountain air and smiled.

Gon was finally here! She knew it was temporary but she decided that she would enjoy having him as long as he wishes.

Along with Gon came Killua, a boy with a confidant posture and a competitive attitude.

Mito-san found that it was so much easier getting the boys to clean their rooms or shop for groceries if she turned it into a competition.

She would watch them picker with amusement, it was so like Gon to create such a strong bond in a short amount of time.

Gon had the ability to win hearts, just like his father, Mito-san thought.

She drifted into a memory of the taller boy with challenging eyes. It always felt like he was seeing something that she couldn't see, something beyond the island, it was like his feet where on the ground whereas his fearless spirit was already souring above.

He went wherever his passion took him not aware of whom he left behind.

It was difficult dealing with his absence; he was as permanent in her life as night and day. Ging was her first friend, her first love, and her first heartbreak.

Whenever she coated her heart with ice and dismissed his memories, something would bring him back, and the ice would melt.

It could be the picture of him on her wall, the tree they used to race-climb, or just passing by the cave that she hid in and almost imagining him finding her again.

It was ironic that he was the one needed to be found now...

And then he came again, but not alone. He came to leave at her care a constant reminder of him, he came to leave Gon.

She instantly felt connected to the helpless boy; she felt that they both shared Ging's rejection. And since she had to go through that alone, she vowed Gon would never have to.

Gon was what brought her back to life, his laugh was contagious, and his compassion wormed her heart.

She felt the ice break once and for all. And she would have completely forgotten Ging if not for that threat over her head.

Gon would want to meet his father. She could see it his eyes, a gleam of an unknown challenge already being accepted as the hunting game would begin.

And she knew that there was more to it than a simple game of cat and mouse, Ging was preparing him. And it hurt her to not know what for.

She took the empty laundry basket in and took the cursed box out of its hiding.

She laid it on the table looking seemingly harmless.

She tried so hard to get rid of it but something won't let her. She threw in the garbage countless times through her tantrums, but always extracted it out once she calmed down.

She would never forgive herself if she took away Gon's right to personally know Ging like she did.

Even if it meant it would take him away from her.
