A.N. Hello ^^ I'd just like to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEAR! 8D
This story is dedicated to Lidner, Gevanni, and Rester celebrating his birthday.
Near sat in the same room as usual and he has sat there for years. Solving the kira case while he played with his toys. Right now he was playing with toy cars and was making soft vrooming noises.
"Vroom vroom."
Lidner was on a laptop as were Gevanni and Rester.
Today was Near's birthday and he thought nobody knew. He was wrong.
He made a point not to tell them. It would bring back memories of Whammy's House, a peaceful time he could never relive.
However, Lidner, Gevanni, and Rester did know somehow. Well not somehow. Near left his computer unlocked one evening. How stupid.
Of course Rester decided to peruse his files. "Hey, Near's birthday is in a week!"
"It is?" Lidner asked him. "I just assumed Near didn't have a birthday and somehow got here on a non-day." Gevanni mused.
"We have to celebrate it!" Rester exclaimed.
"Okay, I'll get the food. Rester get the presents, Gevanni get decorations!" Lidner told them.
"Okay." the guys said.
That was one week ago.
"Hey Near, why don't we go on the roof to get you some fresh air." Rester suggested.
Lidner and Rester were already there.
"No."
"Oh. C'mon! You're like so pale, a little sun would be good for you!"
"'I'm albino."
"…Oh. Please?" Rester begged.
Near let out a sigh. "Fine."
They walked to the elevator. Near actually walked. He was getting pretty tall.
When they were there Rester pressed the roof button.
When they arrived Lidner and Gevanni jumped out of their hiding spots and yelled "Surprise!"
"I'm not surprised. I knew about your "celebration"" Near told them.
"What?" Lidner said. "How?"
"I overheard you all speaking of it. You are quite loud."
Gevanni face-palmed.
"Well we got you presents and cake. Want some?"
"I'm lactose intolerant."
"I know, it's lactose free."
"Fine. I'll take a small slice."
Gevanni cut him half the cake.
"I said small." Near said in his monotone.
Lidner cut him a small slice. "Here"
Near ate it quietly.
"We have presents too."
They moved aside to reveal a mound of toys.
"You didn't wrap them." Near stated.
"You didn't wrap them?" Lidner stage whispered to Rester.
"No.. Was I supposed to?"
"Yes!" Lidner nearly screamed at him.
"Oh..Sorry."
"It's fine." Near told them.
He picked up the new doll making kit and sat down with it. He began to create a new Mello.
Rester had stepped on it earlier this week.
This was a high class doll making kit complete with paint and a small paint brush for details, high quality doll hair, leather among other fabric, and porcelain of a lovely shade. It was white and almost apricot.
He sat there crafting the doll.
Gevanni, Lidner, and Rester exchanged looks.
They sat there until Near finished.
The end result was an amazing copy.
Probably his best doll yet.
"To Mello." Near whispered quietly.
~Somewhere else~
Mello was sitting on couch.
"Today is Near's birthday." Matt told his friend without looking up from his game.
"Yes, I know." he said, very irritated.
This "somewhere" was heaven.
"I'm going to send him something." Matt told him.
Matt addressed a letter to him.
"Care to sign?"
"No."
"Mels.."
"Fine but only if you never call me that ever EVER again."
"Deal."
Mello signed the letter to his rival.
Near sat on the rooftop and a piece of paper flew into his head. He looked silver in the moonlight.
He picked up the paper and read it aloud.
"Dear Near,
Happy birthday. You're nineteen now. Don't worry about us, we're fine.
Don't worry about yourself either. You have many more years to live.
Your friends,
Matt and Mello"
Mello and Matt?
They're dead?
Near smiled at the letter and looked up to the stars.
They're dead but they still live on.
I know terrible. The letter is stupid and has no purpose blah blah blah but I felt it necessary to celebrate Near's birthday.
