A Walk to Remember

(Preface)-The firehouse had always had a mini vacation after the academy dinner and this time it was Shay's turn to choose, She had thought for days, but then decided on a beach retreat and that a change of scenery that was certainly needed. Since Chicago wasn't that all that coastal, she decided that they would take a road trip.
I had the morning shift and a couple hours after I got back to the apartment, I was startled by the doorbell; I immediately got up from where I was sitting and answered the door. I had forgotten, it was the pizza I had ordered, I was only able to eat three slices so I saved the rest for Severide. I had also decided on a location for our "vacation", we'd be heading to Oak Island, North Carolina-it had the beaches, and that meant we'd be rejuvenated, and since the majority of us couldn't remember what the coast looked like, I thought this was a good idea. After I had firmly decided on my choice, I made sure that chief knew about the destination and that if it was alright we would leave tomorrow morning. He agreed with my reasoning and I called Dawson and went shopping for a new bikini, and she said that she needed to look for a new one as well. I picked a basic black one, whereas Dawson had picked a yellow one, "That's surely going to leave an impression on Mills, but may make Casey jealous" I thought. I was really excited to spend some time with Severide, and sometimes I think I am having feeling for him-though I know that I still struggle with trust issues when it came to romance.
(The next morning)
I was all packed-it took all night and ready for our trip, I was as excited as a little girl at Christmas. Severide and I took my car, in case that Dawson's car wouldn't have enough room-we would take Vargas and Hermann and Dawson would take the others. (Eight hours later) We finally made it too the hotel that I had booked, and we were right on the beach and we (even chief) decided that we would be taking a midnight walk on the beach. (5 hours later)- It was finally midnight and we snuck out of our hotel, which wasn't hard to do because everyone was rowdy due to the fact college kids were on spring break. As we approached the entrance of the beach, Severide took my hand and we went to a secluded part of the beach. "Severide, what is going on?" I asked as we stopped, and he got down on one knee and said, "Will you marry me Shay?" I smiled through tears and said, "Yes! This is a walk to remember." As he twirled me around, and then I heard applause coming from our friends. This was definitely going to be a vacation to remember, I remember sightseeing with the others but this was definitely a highlight.
