The raccoon charged. Fear and adrenaline rushed through the pelt of the black kit with the star on his forehead. He unsheathed his claws and backed up. His brother Skykit copied him, his fur trembling on his small shoulders. "I knew we shouldn't have done this!" Skykit snarled, keeping his eyes locked on the raccoon.

"We can beat this piece of fox dung!" spat the black kit.

"We're kits, Lightningkit! We deserve a life!" cried Skykit desperately, his fur rising on his back.

"Run!" yowled Lightningkit. Ice seared through his veins. Fear. "Now!"

They raced back toward the camp, their tiny paws digging into the deep snow, floundering helplessly. The raccoon tramped after them, teeth slavering, drool hanging from it's mouth. Then, from nowhere at all, a gray cat sprang out, and bowled the raccoon over, fastening his teeth into the throat of the beast. It squealed for a heartbeat before going still.

The dark tabby tom looked up contemptuously. "ThunderClan always was stupid. Especially their kits." He drew himself to his feet, his muzzle matted with blood, licked a claw lazily.

"That was awesome!" squeaked Skykit, jumping to his paws. "Teach me how to do that!"

"Shut up!" hissed Lightningkit. He raised his hackles as his green eyes snapped sparks. "This is a ShadowClan warrior! He is an enemy."

Admiration glittered in the amber depths of the ShadowClan warrior's eyes. "If you ever want real training, call me up. Stripeclaw, that's my name."

"Get off our territory before I make you!" growled Lightningkit. Arrogant furball! Thinks he can sway us to join foxy ShadowClan by saving us?

Stripeclaw swiped his tongue around his jaws. "Very well, my little warrior," he turned tail and pushed through the bracken, disappearing.
