Always Here
"I heard about what happened with you and Thom."
Alex turned around swiftly at the sound of this voice. She hadn't heard Michael enter her room, she was too consumed in her thoughts. He stood there using his crutches to support his bandaged leg.
"I know you two were close. I'm sorry you had to do that, Alex"
"Yeah, me too. But...it had to be done." Alex replied hesitantly. In all honestly, she wasn't completely over the event. Actually, she wasn't over it at all. Alex knew she would have to do something like this in her mission of taking down Division, it was unavoidable. Sooner or later she would have had to pull the trigger. Take a life. But she had never imagined it to be someone she was so close to.
"That's true, Thom was a traitor. He betrayed his country and he betrayed Division by siding with Nikita."
Guilt flooded Alex. She despised the fact Thom was now remember as a traitor by the people he was once extremely loyal to. After all, he was a good man, just blind to the corruptness of Division. Just like Michael.
"Alex?"
"Sorry, I got lost in my thoughts." Something I seem to be doing a lot these days.
"It's fine. Look Alex, I just came here to say that... you can talk to me." A pause. "I still remember my first kill, and I remember how hard it was to get over it. And it was made even harder by the fact that I had no one to talk to about my feelings."
Alex smiled. She was so glad to have this friendship with Michael. Some of the other recruits had become close friends of hers, but Michael had become one of the closest. So had Thom, she thought. She quickly dismissed the thought. "Thanks, I'll keep that in mind." She glanced down at his injured leg, "So, how's your leg?"
"It's healing. But the injury to the leg couldn't have come at a more inconvenient time. If I had been there, in action, when Nikita escaped—"
"Michael, you and I both know that you being there wouldn't have made much of a difference. This is Nikita we're talking about."
"True. Well I've to leave you now, Percy is probably looking for me. But again, If you need to talk, I'm here for you."
"Got it," just as he was about to leave, Alex called out, "Wait, Michael."
He turned around, "Yes?"
"I wanted to thank you for...you know the whole jammed gun idea. I don't know what would have happened—"
"Alex. Don't worry about it. I told you that I would never let anything happen to you." A pause. "I'll always be here for you, don't ever forget it"
With that he exited her room using his crutches. Yes, she was definitely glad to have this friendship with Michael.
