for you, i'd wait forever
Days turn into weeks. Weeks turn into months. Months turn into another year.
Sakura grows just as the flowers do: graciously, beautifully, breathtakingly. She is strength and beauty incarnate, kind and headstrong. She cares for those that come to her in the hospital, prepares antidotes for poisons that have killed in years, creates lethal and stealthy ways of assassinations for the day that'll break the peace.
But most importantly: she waits.
She doesn't have to, she knows, but she wants to. She wants more than anything to wait, walk down the streets and look towards the gates' entrance, wake up and look around the room for a disturbance, return home and half-expect someone in the kitchen.
There is a beauty in waiting. A weary exhaustion filled with dulcet intentions tucking itself in the spaces in between her bones, making her strong, making her fall more in love each day.
And when he returns, scruffy and dirty, hair long and kept back with a tattered bandana around his forehead, eyes so clear—she has never been so happy.
Not just for her, but for him. Because he is okay, he is the person she has always known him to be, he is Sasuke.
He kisses the breath out of her. Quick and surprisingly just as he has always been, with the way he came into her life, settled in her heart and refused to ever leave.
His lips are chapped and soft; tender and hesitant. She sucks in air through her nose, drowning in the way he cradles her head close, in the way her chest is pressed against his.
I'll see you soon.
A whisper that's been her companion for all this time.
Thank you.
A quiet confession just for her.
"Sasuke," she whispers and he pulls back, pokes her forehead and smiles.
They have always been underneath the same sky and finally. Oh, finally, he is home.
this is really short and i wrote it the same day naruto ended and my otp became canon. but i wanted to post it here because this is the end of an era, of a big part of my life that helped shape me up to be the person i am now. i'm so thankful to kishi for the fifteen years of hard work, thankful because i started to write bc of this immense love for these characters and thankful because i've met all these amazing people through the mutual love of this manga.
here's to that and here's to sasusaku because silently and strongly i waited and it finally happened.
