A/N: I don't normally write poetry, as I feel I'm not that good at it most of the time. This, though, is a quick something I threw together last night, after thinking about the Crawlers in The Descent. In a way, I suppose it's my personal tribute to the film's writer/director Neil Marshall, and the makeup/effects supervisor Paul Hyett. Between the two of them, they created some of the most harrowing creatures I have ever seen; ones that embody everything we fear about the dark.

I should also mention that one line in this poem is adapted from Danny Elfman's lyrics to the Nightmare Before Christmas song, "This is Halloween."

We are here,

Human, but only just.

Your hairs prickle as they rise,

You turn your head to see

What's out there in the dark behind you.

It is us.

We are the who when you call, "Who's there?"

We are everywhere.

We are what lurks out there in the dark places,

The places where you see nothing,

Where you are afraid, even if you don't know why.

You can't see us, and we can't see you.

But we can hear you.

Come down to our world, and see us in the flesh.

But should you hear our clicks,

It may well be the last thing you ever remember.

We are here.

We are fear.
