Trust: His Love
A blooming friendship soon blossoming into unfathomable love. A hero falling for a mere illusion, that would unknowingly cease to exist from the hero's embrace.
The exhausted hero, longing to collapse onto a waiting rock, walked out of the temple's grand door to the deserted island. His eyes faced the beauty of the sun, which was gradually falling to sleep between the far-out mountains, leaving divine colors in the darkening sky. Slowly his [the hero's] blue eyes drifted down to a figure. Seeing who the figure was, the Hero grinned.
"Sheik!" The Hero called.
The woman turned around to face the man.
"The water has risen as the evil vanishes from the lake, Hero, you did it!" Sheik spoke, "I relish the sight of you uninjured, Hero."
The Hero stood by her side, and they both faced the now gone sun.
"You know you can call me Link, right?"
"Of course, Hero," Sheik teased.
Link gave a soft chuckle as his eyes shifted to his guide's face ―at least the part of her face he could see― and longed to pull down the mask covering everything below her eyes, and wished to tuck her long golden bangs behind her ears.
The mysterious woman guided Link throughout his journey, giving helpful advice and sometimes even disabling traps before the hero arrived; however, she never lingered longer than necessary. She always disappeared after the deed was done, never giving Link a chance to start a proper conversation with her. But this time Link planned on keeping the woman a little longer.
Intending to disappear again, Sheik then began to back away from Link. Link grabbed her wrist in hast.
"Wait! C-can't you stay a little?" his voice desperate.
"I shouldn't, I must go ahead to assist with your tasks."
"The world has been waiting for 7 years… can't it wait at least 10 more minutes?"
Sheik let out an exhausted sigh.
"Hero―"
"Sheik, please."
She paused, determining whether or not to stay.
She let out another exhalation, "okay."
Link's smile grew wider, "Thank you."
The two sat in comfortable silence, enjoying the company from one another.
"Sheik…" Link broke the stillness.
The Sheikah looked down from the stars, pulled away from her brooding.
Taking Sheik's silence as a sign to continue, Link spoke again.
"Sheik… you've really helped me throughout the war and I'm truly thankful for that... "
"No need to thank me, Hero―"
"I really do, Sheik! You have been there for me since the start… I trust you with my life! I- I really care about you, Sheik…"
He hesitantly placed his calloused filled hand on her masked cheek, causing Sheik's exotic red eyes to widen. With a comforting rub with his thumb, the mask slowly inched down her paling face, her eyes shone immense sin, and he tucked her bang behind her ear, away from her right eye.
Before Link could get a proper look at his guide's face, he felt the warmth of soft-filled-lips pushed against his chapped ones. He shakes the shock way and responds back with just as much love. The two pull apart and the Hero slowly opens his eyes, expecting to see the face he longed for. However, the woman was no longer where she stood.
