"I will definitely bring Gray back, this I promise you."
Natsu had made that promise without much of an explanation, and the rest of the ride was void of conversation. The turmoil that was going through Natsu's head kept him busy, and he couldn't share any of that with Lucy at the moment.
"Gray will kill Frosch."
He hadn't forgotten about that ominous warning. It had never completely left his mind, and it had been nagging at him continuously for the past year. A promise was a promise after all, and Natsu had promised Future Rogue to save Frosch.
Of course, the nagging had gotten stronger when he heard of Fairy Tail's disbandment. When Lucy told him that all the guild members had split up and gone their own way he had felt many different emotions, one of which had definitely been worry for Frosch and Gray. By the time he found all the data Lucy had of the guild members and noticed just how little information she had on Gray, he could practically hear Future Rogue's warning again, as if the man was standing right behind him repeating it over and over.
They had set out to find the remaining guild members. Not just for Gray and Frosch, but for the entire guild. The excitement of bringing Fairy Tail back had momentarily pushed Future Rogue's warning to the back of Natsu's mind, but when they stumbled upon Juvia the nagging came back full force. They had found her alone in the rain, in an abandoned village. Assuming Gray didn't have something to do with that would have been naive.
And now, after having visited Sabertooth and seeing that ominous request, Natsu just couldn't lie to himself anymore. While Future Rogue's warning had been at the back of his mind all the time, he never truly believed it. Gray was no killer, and he certainly would never lay a hand on an exceed. Natsu trusted Gray. He had known him for far too long to just throw that trust away.
Now though, he wasn't sure if that trust did him or Gray any good. If he really wanted to find Gray, if he really wanted to find out what was going on with him, then that trust was no good to him. He had to be prepared for anything. A whole year is a long time, long enough for people to change beyond recognition. So he wouldn't trust Gray, not right now. He couldn't trust Gray to have made all the right choices, and he couldn't trust Gray to still be person he once was...
...That didn't mean Natsu had lost faith in him, though. He believed in Gray. He believed that whatever it was that was going on right now, Gray would come out of it unharmed. They would all come out of it unharmed. After all, they were going to bring Fairy Tail back, and Fairy Tail needed Gray.
They would bring Gray back with them even if it meant tying him up and dragging him along for the entire trip.
Natsu smirked. It's not like it would be the first time.
A/N: this was just a short drabble. Honestly the latest Fairy Tail chapters have me so excited that I couldn't not write at least this little thing. I hope you guys like it!
Also, English isn't my first language, and while I did proofread it myself there's a chance there might be some grammatical errors or incorrect spelling... if that is the case feel free to let me know via review or PM!
Of course I would also like it if you could let me know through review or PM what you thought of the drabble, or maybe your thoughts on the latest chapter in general ^ ^ thanks!
oh and the "it's not like it would be the first time" refers to that time Natsu tied Gray up and took him to Galuna Island with him and Lucy.
