They never had anything to say to each other.
Their lives had moved in a flurry of action, movement, sleep, food and fighting. They fought desperately, and in a way, they were fighting for each other, as well as for themselves, and everything they had ever stood for.
They twirled, they danced, they fought, they stopped and took a breath. There was nothing for them to talk about. They were chalk and cheese, completely silent and never liking the same thing.
But they still depended on each other. They fought back to back, a small tornado ripping everything in its path. They tore down anything that stood in their way, that threatened them, their friends, family or each other.
And sometimes, they would nod or possibly smile if they passed each other in the street, or in a corridor. There were no words exchanged between them.
There's was a silent form of comradeship, and, if they dared, friendship.
And that was the way they liked it.
