A.N - I don't own The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness or any of the text used from the book, Spirit Walker. I don't own a wolf either. :P

Renn sat crouched behind a large rock, listening intently at the Seal Mage and Torak's conversation. She had worried; the fight had left her not only fearful for Torak's welfare as he refused to listen to her warnings, but even more drawn in by the mysterious sense of danger that seemed to swell around Tenris. She would make Torak realise - she had to - before it was too late.

"Everything in the world," started Tenris, "has a spirit. Hunter, prey, river, tree. Not all of them can talk, but all can hear and think. You know this, of course." Torak glanced towards the Mage and nodded. "The three souls of every creature - the souls which make the spirit - these are rooted in the body." Tenris continued, and as Renn watched him poke the fire, she leaned forward, snapping a twig in two with her right foot and making a noise. Tenris glanced over in her direction and she ducked lower, praying to the World Spirit that he wouldn't see her. He tilted his head forward in curiosity, but this was all, and he quickly diverted his gaze back to Torak and continued.

"Maybe the name-soul might slip out every once in a while if you're ill, or dreaming; but that rarely goes far, and soon comes back." Renn leaned closer still, the boulders beside her scratching her elbows. "But once every thousand winters, a creature is born who is - different. This creature's souls," the Mage went on, "can leave its body - leave it for much longer than any Mage ever achieves when he is curing the sick. This creature's souls can travel further." Renn breathed out, remembering how Torak had described the feeling he'd had during his time in the net. It fit Tenris's description...It was starting to make sense - sense that Renn was too frightened, but nevertheless intruiged - to know about.

"They can enter the bodies of others." said Tenris. "And when that happens, the creature sees, and hears, and feels, just as the body into which it has strayed - and yet remains himself." The Mage looked Torak straight in the eyes, and a shudder ran down Renn's neck and back as she knew - they both knew - what was coming next. "This creature," Tenris whispered, "is a spirit walker..."

Renn picked herself up slowly, and as she was sure she was out of earshot, she ran, as far as she could from what she was hearing. She couldn't - she wouldn't - believe it. Tears of fustration filled her eyes. She didn't know what to feel. Torak the companion, Torak the Wolf Brother - Torak the friend; and now, Torak -

Torak the Spirit Walker.
