This story is a trial. I've been a fan of the Twilight series for quite some time, but have never attempted to write in the genre. However, the idea for this story has been playing at the back of my brain for weeks now and I can't seem to quiet it. So, I sat down and decided to write a very short introductory chapter. I am unsure of whether I will fit in here, and it is up to feedback from you on whether this story is completed or not. Please let me know what you think. I appreciate any and all feedback. Thank you, and enjoy.

Title: Darkness Author: Radiogirl

Summary: Separated by the darkness of deceit, will Edward and Bella be able to find one another again? Who has kept them apart, and how will they bridge the distance between them again?

Disclaimer: I own none of the characters introduced in the Twilight series- those beloved characters belong only to Stephenie Meyer. Nor do I own any song lyrics I use along the way (all of which I will credit). I, however, do hold the right to this story and any events and/or characters that I have created in my own mind. Please, do not take.

I used to rule the world; seas would rise when I gave the word. Now in the morning I sweep alone, sweep the streets I used to own. I used to roll the dice, feel the fear in my enemies' eyes… One minute I held the key, next the walls were closed on me. And I discovered that my castles stand upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand…

Edward

There is something so familiar about the blackness of night; about the suffocating awareness of one's lone presence on the streets. The only light comes from the dim, flickering streetlight sending small puddles of illumination onto the street. The darkness brings stillness to the world. In the darkness of her absence, all I had was the loneliness of the streets.

Before I met her, I would often walk the streets alone at night. It was a loneliness I embraced, reveling in the silence of my mind as the world slept. It was the only time when I could embrace the silence. The moments when human minds were encased in slumber, peacefully unaware of the world around them.

After I met her, however, the night was never as comforting. The night brought a loneliness I could never embrace. I would watch her sleep, my body longing to wake her from her slumber; unable to wait until the light of day to see her eyes alert again. And now… the night was mine again. During the day, I longed for the loneliness of nightfall and during the night, I was left alone with the agony I knew was mine to endure.

I had left the others long ago. It was too hard to be near them and read their thoughts as they watched me wallow in the despair that her absence left behind. They wanted to protect me, but we all knew it was impossible to protect me from an invisible enemy. No one could protect me from the memories that still haunt me- will forever haunt me, for there is no mortal escape from this sadness.

When they took her, they ended my life. When the blood drained from her body, my soul drained from mine. They stole her life away from me, they turned this immortal being into mortal. I will find an end to this pain.

Bella

When they spoke to me at first daybreak, they spoke of two truths.

The first was that my awakening would be the most vivid memory that I ever recall. The fire that burned through my body, opening me up to a world of senses that I'd never experienced before.

The second was that my human memories would fade. As I grew accustomed to seeing the world through my new eyes, I would slowly forget those from the past. They would become only silhouettes of a memory- like déjà vu. A dream you can't quite remember in the morning.

Of only the first were they correct. I will remember him for the rest of my endless nights.
