Change
a/n: what am I doing?
I said I'd never leave, and you'll never change.
...
Change is inevitable.
"Only if you believe it is, Spacey."
…
We made plans to grow old-
.
"So, now what?"
"Well, now that we're officially dating, we can just take it day by day or do it your way."
Casey looked at him quizzically. "My way?"
He shrugged. "Yeah, we'll plan what will happen from now until thirty years into the future."
Casey smiled, amused. "Fine, we'll do it my way."
Derek put his hand under his chin, pretending to think deeply. He paused then looked at her. "Alright then, Space Case, I want my own office in our house."
"Only if I have a garden." She replied quickly.
"Why do you want a garden?" Derek exclaimed, a puzzled expression on his face.
"Why do you want an office?" She retorted.
"Touché. I want three kids, all boys."
"No! I want girls."
"Girls and boys?" He suggested.
"Okay."
"I want our house to not be girly." He said seriously.
"I want our house to look like one of those century-old houses."
"I want a kid named Nathan."
Casey grimaced. "I hate that name. What about Josephine?"
"Josephine?"
"Yes." She said, a smile on her face.
"No." Derek replied.
"Fine, no Josephine but no Nathan either."
"Natalie?"
She smiled. "Yeah, I like that name."
.
Believe me, there was truth in all those stories I told.
…
"Why now, Case? Why now?"
"I don't know, Derek.""We were so close. all those plans we made, the things you wanted to happen-"
"I know, and I'm sorry-"
"Why?"
"It's not you-" she said, as if trying to reassure him he wasn't screwed.
"then why are you leaving me then, if it's not me?"
"I'm really sorry." She said, her head down.
...
Lost in a simple game-
…
"Hey, Casey." He called out.
"Yeah?"
"You were right. Change is inevitable."
A tear ran down Derek's face. It broke Casey's heart in two.
…
Yes, I do believe that.
It's hard to change everything about yourself. We are who we are.
Everyone changes. that's what I think, if you were smart, you would think that too. Not
everything can stay the same forever.
…
What about us?
What do you mean?
Do you think we'll change?
Maybe.
That's not very comforting.
Maybe we'll change for the better.
…
I don't think we'll change. We have too much chemistry.
Are you sure about that?
Wanna bet?
It's on.
…
"Congratulations, Case. You won" Derek said in a soft, almost inaudible voice. And, with one sigh, he shut the door behind him.
…
Are we the same people as before this came to light?
