Disclaimer: I do not own Glee or the song Dear Prudence.

Slight AU, as Sam is not dating Santana in my world :D

Rachel lay in bed, curled around her long pillow, allowing her tears to flow freely. Today was the day. Today, Quinn and Finn went public with their relationship. There was a dull ache in her chest that had refused to let up since the day when Quinn told her the truth. It had been a horrible day full of sympathetic looks shot her way and Quinn flaunting her relationship, however inadvertently.

She was deep in her misery when she heard the faint sound of a guitar strumming. The sound slowly grew and a familiar voice began singing

Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day

Rachel sat up slowly, wiping at her tears.

The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?

She walked to the window and glanced at the ground outside. Sam was there, strumming his guitar; he grinned widely as he noticed her standing at her window before continuing.

Dear Prudence, open up your eyes
Dear Prudence, see the sunny skies
The wind is low, the birds will sing
That you are part of everything
Dear Prudence, won't you open up your eyes?

Laughing, because she couldn't believe he remembered her favourite Beatles song (she had mentioned it once, in passing months ago), Rachel leaned against the sill and joined in with the chorus.

Look around round
Look around round round
Oh, look around

Dear Prudence, let me see you smile
Dear Prudence, like a little child
The clouds will be a daisy chain
So let me see you smile again
Dear Prudence, won't you let me see you smile?

Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?

Sam motioned for her to come down as he finished off the song. Misery slowly leaking away, Rachel checked her reflection quickly before hurrying down the stairs and into Sam's arms. He buried his face in her hair.

"I know it was hard today, with the whole Fuinn crap."

Rachel nodded against his shoulder. "Thank you."

"They're not worth it." She knew he was only saying it to make them both feel better.

"We'll get through this," she whispered, leaning back in his embrace.

"Of course we will." Sam grinned and kissed her nose. "Come on, Breadsticks, on me." He released her, only to lace his fingers with his as he tugged her to his car. She stopped him just before he made to walk around.

"I just want to say, you're awesome, Sam. I couldn't ask for a better friend," Rachel told him, smiling up at his bright green eyes. He reached up and cupped one of her cheeks.

"You…" Sam sighed and leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss to her lips. "You're just incredible." She was looking at him with those brown doe eyes and the next words flowed easily from his lips. "Oel ngati kameie."

Some of the sadness that lingered behind that strong front she put up for everyone else dissipated. "I love you, too, Sam."
