Darry's POV
I was done working for the day and starving. I smelled bread and followed it to the bakery not even bothering to change. I opened the door and saw her. A women probably my age at the counter rolling out dough and take things out of the oven. She was pretty looking. Long red hair piled on top of her head in a bun, bangs rolled upwards, long eyelashes hiding her emerald eyes.
"So do you want anything?" The women said in my direction. I couldn't say anything beside "Um uh." She smiled and said "Don't be shy, I'm not going to be mean to some one who works long hours,on a the rooftops of homes." How could she tell I was a roofer. "Uh thanks." I said. I got a muffin and was still talking to her as she made other things. "So how did you know I'm a roofer?" I asked.
"Well your shirt is drenched with sweat, you have huge arms and my parent's house is getting their roof fixed and I saw you there."She said icing a choclate cake. "You saw me." I asked not knowing if it were good or bad. "Yes, and I have alot of respect for what you do, unlike my brothers or my parents." She said putting the cake in a display case. "So you're a Socs?" I asked unsure right now she could be one or the other.
"Call me what you want but I'm still an American." She said harshly. I knew I just blew it. "If your going to harass me then can't I call you a hood." She said her eyes not coming of the cookies she was putting into a display rack. "I didn't mean it like that I was just asking if." I stumbled. Please Earth just come up and eat me. "If you must know yes my parents are well off if you mean if I'm well off then no."She said.
I was now very confused. "My parents disowned me because I said I wanted to work for a living." She said sourly. "That doesn't seem fair." I said leaning against the counter on my elbows. "The world ain't fair, superman."She said bitterly. "My name's Darry." I said since I almost knew her whole back story. "I'm Margret Janice Kens but please call me Margie." She said giving me her full name.
"I will, bye Margie." I said leaving.
