Neville Longbottom sat alone in the Room of Requirement. In his hands was a small photograph. To anyone one else, it might have meant little. But to Neville, it meant everything.
There was Harry with untidy black hair and a grin on his face. His scar was hidden by hair and he looked as if he was a normal teenage boy. Ron stood next to him. He was also smiling, his flaming red hair glowing in the sunlight. His arm rested on Hermione's shoulder. Hermione, her hair as bushy as ever, had a bright smile and would occasionally glance at Ron, her eyes sparkling. Happy to be with her friends. Ginny was on Harry's other side. He had his arm around her shoulders and her soft smile was comforting. She too had the Weasley mark of flaming red hair. She and Harry would look lovingly at each other and smile as if there was nothing in the world that could ruin their happiness. Neville himself was next. The fact that he was among friends, friends who liked and cared about him, was the reason for his smile in the photo. That and the girl who stood next to him. The girl who had made Neville more alive than he'd ever had. The girl who made his heart pound. Luna. Beautiful Luna. Her smile was soft, but you could tell she was happy. Her eyes were bright and dancing. She looked so peaceful, so at ease despite everything that was going on. That was one of the things Neville loved about Luna. She never gave up hope. Even though the picture didn't show it, Neville knew that his hand was resting lightly in Luna's. He had been happy that day. Happier than he'd ever been. But his happiness had been taken.
Neville sat and stared at the photo a few minutes more before he heard the footsteps.
"I thought you might be here." Ginny Weasley sat down next to Neville. "I remember this," she said, looking at the photo. "That was a good day."
"It was. Back before this." Ginny nodded knowingly.
"Neville, you've been in here for days. I think you need to come out, the Carrows aren't…"
"No."
"Neville, you can't do this."
"Who says?"
"Neville I miss her too, but you can't just shut yourself away, not when there are people here who need you."
"I can't do it Ginny, not without her. You don't understand, Luna means everything to me. She's the reason that I fight. I fight so I can protect her. I fight so she can be safe. But now they've taken her, they've taken her and they've taken a part of me too." Neville buried his face in his hands, trying hard not to cry. His Luna was gone, and he didn't know how to get her back. Ginny placed her hand on Neville's shoulder.
"I know Neville. But you can't give up. She wouldn't want you too. Luna never gives up hope, she never hides away. She wouldn't want you to abandon everyone here at Hogwarts. We need you Neville."
Ginny's words sank into Neville. Luna would never give up. She wouldn't want him to either. He had to keep going. He had to keep fighting the Carrows. "Come back to Gryffindor Tower please Neville." Ginny asked. He nodded slowly and rose from the floor. "We'll get her back Neville. I promise."
Neville and Ginny made their way to Gryffindor Tower. There they greeted others with reassurances that everything was fine, that everything would work out. Neville wasn't sure if he believed it himself, but he knew that he had to keep going. For Hogwarts. For his fellow Gryffindors. For Harry, whom Neville swore he would always support. For his parents. For his Luna.
