AN: Drabble, character study. If you're reading my other story "Something's Wrong", I want you to know that I'm working on it, but I don't think there will be an update for a few good months.

"What could go wrong?" Shawn shrugged.

Gus remembers the first time he heard those fateful words. He and Shawn had been friends for about a week and he could already tell that those awful, terrible, gut-wrenching words would one day kill him. Young and naïve at the tender and critical age of five, Shawn thought that the Burton's pet fish was too skinny and had somehow came to him in a dream and asked to try Shawn's favorite food. Shawn, being the oh-so helpful friend decided to feed Gus's father's prized Koi fish pineapple fired rice. To this day, Gus never did figure out how Shawn got a hold of the Thai dish but needless to say, the fish didn't live very long thereafter and both Shawn and Gus lost privileges for an entire week.

The second time that Gus heard those words was three weeks later when Shawn had the fantastic idea of going to the supermarket because he found five whole dollars in the street and he had a huge craving for chocolate. And really, what kind of five year old would Gus be if he passed up the chance at free chocolate? Except, that same historic day Gus learned to never trust Shawn with directions as they got lost and somehow ended up in the next city over. Lucky for them, Gus knew his parents' phone numbers and they asked a helpful and young police officer for help.

There were countless other times as they grew up when Shawn had managed to mutter those same four little words and Gus learned long ago that whatever happened after Shawn asked that tiny question would be legendary, no matter how much trouble they got in or how much the cops kept questioning their whereabouts or how many times Gus's parents checked his rooms for mind alternating substances. Nothing could touch the memories of whatever happened after Shawn said those words.

Thus this time Gus assumed that it would be no different. He knew that he would end up paying dearly for this excursion, albeit that has never deterred him in the past. He wondered how normal friends acted with each other. Sometimes he dreamed of sitting down at a table and having dinner and a deep conversation, then watching some game on TV but that was all in his head and he didn't know if friends did that.

But maybe that was too boring, it didn't seem like much fun now that he thought about it. Sure a deep conversation was needed now and then but, he was a guy! How many deep conversations could he get in before he decided that he needed to hang himself or else drown in boredom?

So when Shawn asked him that momentous question, who was he to refuse to get in the submarine? It was only Disneyland and it wasn't like the submarine had real controls that Shawn could potentially mess with and somehow destroy Disneyland.
