Neither Ron nor Harry could figure out how they'd done it. Or which one of them had cast the charm. One second Malfoy was making fun of Hermione about her teeth, bushy hair, blood status. And the next he was laying on the floor of the Entrance Hall stiff as a board. Both Ron and Harry had pulled their wands out at the same time. Both had performed a spell on Malfoy. But which one of them had cast the freezing charm?
"It wasn't me," said Ron, "I tried to do the spell Hermione did to Neville in first year. You know, the one where he was laying stiff?"
"Well it wasn't me," Harry said, "I tried to disarm him."
"It had to have been one of you," said Hermione, "no one else had their wands out."
While the trio scratched their heads trying to figure out who'd cast the freezing charm on Malfoy, Goyle discreetly slipped his wand up the sleeve of his robe.
