Demonclaw is part of the clan he was going to ambush, but jealousy and hatred took over him. He wanted to rule, not Flamestar, the rightfull ruler of Forestclan.

Flamestar fell to the ground as still as a rock and was ice cold with no life what so ever, just lying there still and lifeless.
Flamestar was on his third life, and Demonclaw bit him once and that was it for him.
