A/N: YES, MY FELLOW OBSESSIVE MINIONS!!!! THIS one-shot does, IN FACT, state Thirteen's real name. As in, the actual name that those nice writers gave her, not the faky lame name that fanfic writers have given her. If you want to find out, then keep reading. If you don't, then don't read!!!!
"This is it," said Thirteen, placing her lab coat on House's desk. It was folded up neatly. House hated that.
"I guess so," said House. A few seconds passed. Thirteen smiled.
"No, 'You've been a great employee' . . . 'I'm gonna miss having you on my team' . . . any of that?" she asked.
House said nothing, but stared at her seriously. Her smile faded.
"I'd be stupid to expect anything like that," she said quietly, but there was still a hint of knowing happiness in her voice. She held out her hand.
"Dr. House," she said. House looked down at it, as though she held an unknown object in her hand. Slowly, he took it, but it was Thirteen who initiated the shake.
"I enjoyed working here," she said genuinely. "And I will miss you." She gave him a little nod and turned to leave.
"Wait a second," said House. Thirteen turned around. "What's your real name?" asked House.
Thirteen smirked. "Why?" she asked. "So you can call me by my real name for the last three seconds you know me? So you can see if I'll finally break? You don't want to know my name. You couldn't care less about my real name. But if I tell you my name, it means that I've learned enough about you to just tell you and spare you your trouble." She chuckled and shook her head. "It's been three years, House. My answer hasn't changed."
"Which is what?" asked House.
Thirteen smiled. "If you want to know, it's in the file."
House smirked. "I know your name."
Thirteen blinked, but kept her composure.
"I've known your name for three years," he continued. "I just wanted to see if you'd tell me."
"Or, you're bluffing."
"Or you're more cunning than when you came here three years ago."
Thirteen smiled again. "Or you just don't like change. You called me 'Thirteen' for the first two weeks you knew me, and you liked it. You liked having a cute little nickname for your inferior so there'd be some intrigue in it for you when you finally hired me."
"You're saying you knew I was going to hire you back when there were 50 applicants?" said House skeptically, a coy smile coating his lips.
Thirteen shrugged. "Dunno, you tell me. But you liked having a challenge. Having to figure me out by something as personal and yet simple as a name."
"I just said I knew it all along."
"Than what is it?"
"You think I'll just answer?"
"I guess not," chuckled Thirteen. "But I do know that there's absolutely no fun in it for you if you just look in the file. And you're right. After three years, I doknow you better. I know you well enough to know that you like a challenge, you like playing mind games with people and their reactions decipher how you treat them."
Suddenly, a slight wave of anger pushed her emotions further. "You didn'twant to know my name then, and you don't now."
She turned on her heel and began to stalk of his office. Her hand was on the door, when House called out.
"Hadley," he said.
She turned around, her jaw set and her eyes cold.
"Remy Hadley," said House quietly. He gave her a little nod. "You passed your test."
Her eyes were like chips of ice. "And you failed yours."
With that, she turned and walked out of his office, this time for good. House blinked, and sat down his chair, rubbing his leg.
