Disclaimer: I do not own Wishbone
"It isn't fair," Joe cried, "I don't want Wishbone to have to leave. I love him!"
Joe's mom hugged him and tried to comfort her crying son.
"I know sweetheart," she said, "and Wishbone loves you too but he is sick and in a lot of pain. We don't want him to be in pain do we?"
Joe shook his head.
"I want him to get better," he said stubbo
Wishbone threw his owner a pleading look as if to say PLEASE PUT ME OUT OF MY PAIN. Joe nodded.
"I love you boy," he said crying heavily.
"Are you ready," the vet asked gently.
Mom nodded sadly.
"I want to hold him while you put him down," Joe said
Mom looked unsure.
"Mom please," Joe said, "This will be the last time I hold him ever?"
Mom sighed deeply. She didn't know Joe could handle it. She also couldn't refuse him. Joe sang quietly to him tears streaming down his face.
What's the story Wishbone...
At the sound of his master's voice Wishbone licked his hand for the last time as the needle given to him made him sleepy. He faded away leaving those love him behind but only for what would seem like a moment to Wishbone. He won't up in a place called Rainbow Bridge. If you haven't heard of Rainbow Bridge it is a heaven for animals. It is connected only by a bridge to the heaven for people so Wishbone and Joe would be able to reconnect. Wishbone barked in glee when he saw all his friends from before. They all ran over to him to greet him kiss him and help him cross rainbow bridge.
...
"Joe I made cake for you," mom said
"I don't want cake," Joe said, "I want wishbone"
He burst into tears again. His little sister was away on a school weekend field trip. His older sister would be coming home from college tomorrow.
"I know," mom said, "but I promise you that you'll see him again one day."
Mom thought about getting Joe a new dog but decided not to bring that up just yet.
