Dear Eric,

Hey man, it's me;

It's been a long time since we've seen one another, 20 years to be exact. I'm now 25, and I'm living in L.A California. Man, I didn't realize how awkward writing this would be, considering the reason I'm writing this.

I don't know how to say it, but basically, I want to say, 'Thanks.'

I had a great childhood, or what was left of it anyway. My adoptive parents John and Tawnie were great people. I'm glad that they adopted me, really I am really glad I even was considered to be Sarah's little brother. She's 28 and living in Long Beach with her husband Mark and daughter Maria.

But, I'm getting off the subject of this letter.

I've thought about you, off and on for years; and 20 years later I've come to the conclusion that I treated you like crap whenever you told me you weren't going to adopt me. I was devastated, angry, and hurt. This is why I pushed you away, why I left Philli to go to California mad at you. I didn't understand why you would do this, why you would tell me something and then take it back; but I understand now.

You wanted the best for me, you wanted me to have parents, a big pool, and a dog named Waldo. I thought you hated me, and didn't want me around, but the truth was that you loved me enough to realize that I deserved better than what you could give me at the time. I never really saw you with anyone, I never knew where you lived, and although I didn't see it then, I know now you couldn't have raised me.

So Eric, I want to say thank you. Thank you for loving me so much that you gave me up to have a better life.

I'm getting married next month to an Elizabeth Hunter, and I couldn't be happier. But I just had to thank the big brother who made my life so for filling.

Maybe we can meet up sometime, Liz did some work and she found your address on the internet.

Living in New York; man, I hope life is awesome for you, you deserve it.

Sincerely,

Tommy

Eric Mathews sat stunned at the kitchen table in his New York house, reading and rereading Thomas's letter. The man, now in his forties, lowered the paper to the table as his wife entered the spacious kitchen.

"Something wrong, honey?"

Eric didn't answer, to shock to speak. However Emma his wife didn't press the issue.

"I just got off the phone with Cory, it seems that Shawn and Angela's daughter Liz has met some guy in California and they are getting married. Shawn invited us three months ago, but I told Cory that we never got the invitation... it must've gotten lost in the mail..."

Eric Smiled as Emma continued, gently stroking the paper that he held in his hands.

"Don't worry Em," he said, holding up the hand written letter, "we have an invite."
