D'Void opened his eyes after he heard a baby's cry. *Are enemies trespassing in my citadel again? They are not going to arrest me for conquering the Null Void. Perhaps my daughter is hungry* he thought. D'Void sat up and got out of bed. Worry filled his eyes as he ran to a crib. He viewed the Null Guardian writhing in the crib.
''Daddy is here,'' D'Void said as he frowned. He lifted the Null Guardian and embraced her. ''You're too warm. Are you sick?'' he muttered under his breath. D'Void placed her in the crib. He saw two stuffed animals near her. Grinning, he placed them in her tentacles.
''I'll always take care of you.''
D'Void's eyes became wide after the Null Guardian released the animals. ''Are you hungry?'' he wanted to know. His shoulders slumped while the Null Guardian still sobbed. He saw the floor. D'Void viewed a stuffed kitten and smiled. He took the kitten and lifted it.
''I'll always take care of you.'' D'Void held the kitten near his daughter. He watched as she took her toy and embraced it. He heard her while she cooed. His grin returned after she kissed his face. D'Void scratched her stomach before he returned to his bed. His smile remained after he fell asleep.
Hours went by before D'Void opened his eyes again. After sitting up, he got out of bed. D'Void walked to his daughter's crib another time.
He smiled as she still embraced the stuffed kitten. D'Void scratched her face. He gasped after he was suddenly aware of how cold it was. Tears formed in D'Void's eyes and ran down his face. He remained near the crib for many hours.
After the infant was buried, D'Void remained by the grave marker. He smiled and sobbed at the same time. ''I'll always take care of you.''
