Second Chances—Prologue

SEPTEMBER 12th, 2011

The sudden tapping noise of heels walking down a marble floor was all it took for Aro to look up at the door. He had given his guard strict instruction not to bother him or his brothers until there was news—good news. The last person to tell Aro something he did not want to hear was no longer able to tell him anything else at all, nor was he alive actually.

The tapping stopped.

Aro looked around at his brothers, who swiftly reassumed their sitting positions on either side of him and then back at the door. "Enter," he said softly, know that the person on the other side of the door would hear him.

Aro smiled as Jane walked in, thinking to himself that perhaps it was smart for Jane to have been sent this time. He would not dispose of her like he had with the last guard—she was too precious.

Jane did not look as amused, although she was not fidgeting her eyes were darting around nervously, and they had the glint in then that showed she was prepare to use her powers at any second if needed. "Master," she said slowly. "We have found her."

The chamber was silent for approximately one second before Aro smiled wickedly and said, "Well then what are you waiting for my darling, Bring her in."

Immediately the sound of a struggle could be heard from the antechamber and the doors busted open. Aro could see Felix and Demetri walking in, with a young female between them. One of her arms very firmly encased in both of theirs. They moved directly to the center of the room right beside Jane and in front of Aro.

Aro's brothers looked on curiously, but it was still him who spoke. "Hello young one," he said. "Is it true what they say about you? What can you do?"

The woman looked around panicking, "I-I-I don't know what you're talking about. Why am I here? What do you want from me?"

Aro laughed, "Dear one," he said. "You will soon learn that it will do you no good to lie to me."

"Jane," said a gravely voice from beside Aro.

Jane turned her gaze to the woman and then suddenly she was writing on the floor and screaming in agony, although her arms were still being grasped tightly.

The screaming stopped after about two minutes. "Excellent, Excellent," said Aro laughing jubilantly with the rest of the guards. Felix had pulled the female up again and now she looked terrified. "Now lets try that again," said Aro with a sinister smile on his face. "Is it true what they say about you? What can you do?"

This time the girl had still looked panicked but this time she didn't hesitate. She was scared, and she had no idea that her next words would set off a chain of events that once started, would not be able to be stopped.

"Yes" she murmured, in a voice so soft that even all the vampires in the room had to strain to hear it.

Aro didn't say anything for a long minute, and neither did anybody else. Then he looked to either side of him, in contained excitement. "Come my brothers," he said. "The time has come to finally pay our dear American friends another visit."

At that exact moment, on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, a short black haired vampire gasped suddenly.
