Internet Safety
Author's Note: So I was in English waiting for my computer to load and I typed my name. Then I giggled and typed "My name is Harry Potter," enter, "Hello, Harry Potter. My name is Tom Riddle," and so on and so forth. Then I thought of this story.
Summary: Can you mix Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Internet Safety rules? The answer is yes. Can you mix Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Internet Safety rules successfully and well? The answer is maybe. I won't know until you review.
Arthur Weasley once said, "Never trust anything that can think for itself if it can't show you where it keeps its brain." The same rule applies on the internet. Never trust anyone if you can't see them. If you can't see someone's face while they are talking, there is no way to actually be sure that they're who they say they are.
"My name is Harry Potter. Hello, Harry Potter. My name is Tom Riddle. Do you know anything about the Chamber of Secrets? Yes. Can you tell me? No…But I can show you." This was a conversation between Harry and Voldemort in the second book. Harry used his real name when talking to him and you saw how that turned out. Never use your real name on the internet….or when talking to Magical diaries that you found in flooded girls bathrooms. It will not turn out well without the sword of Gryffindor.
"So Ginny poured out her soul to me, and her soul happened to be exactly what I wanted….." this was when Voldemort told Harry how he managed to possess Ginny. Don't give too much personal information (your school, home address, last name, names of friends or family, etc.) out on the internet or to diaries that talk back. You might get possessed by the darkest wizard in history. Not fun.
"Imagine how angry I was when the next time my diary was opened, it was Ginny who was writing to me, not you. She saw you with the diary, you see, and panicked. What if you found out how to work it, and I repeated all her secrets to you? What if, even worse, I told you who'd been strangling roosters?" Voldemort told Harry who stole his diary from him. If you wouldn't want everyone to see something you did or said on the internet, don't put it on the internet. If there is someone that you know who you think shouldn't see something you did or said, don't post it. If you don't want complete strangers seeing it, see if there is a way that only people you want can see it. If not, just don't post it. Don't write it in cursed diaries that turn out to be Horcruxes either.
